  Risk of fire  due to ignition of R1234yf refrigerant on hot components. Risk of poisoning  caused by inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by contact with escaped R1234yf refrigerant and when working on pressurized parts. Risk of explosion  due to formation of ignitable refrigerant/air mixtures Never perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated rooms.
Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been evacuated.

2 Remove air intake pipe (1).

4 Slacken poly-V-belt (3) and remove from belt pulley (4). Engine 276.8 in model 205, 253 AR13.22-P-1202MMV

5 Release and disconnect electrical connector (5).    
6.1 Remove low-pressure line (6) from refrigerant compressor (13) and seal openings with suitable stop plugs. Engine 276 in model 205, 218, 222, 253

    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Replace the sealing ring of the low-pressure line (6). Moisten sealing ring with compressor oil.

7 Remove high-pressure line (7) from refrigerant compressor (13) and seal openings using suitable stop plugs.

8 Remove lower engine compartment paneling. Engine 276 in model 222 AR61.20-P-1105LF

    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Only install lower engine compartment paneling after leak test.  
9 Remove holders (8) from oil lines (9). IMPORTANT Note positioning of holder (8).  
10 Remove clamps (10) and press oil lines (9) to one side. TORQUE SPECIFICATION Engine 276 in model 205, 213, 218, 222, 253 with transmission 725.0

11 Remove the two screws accessible from below from refrigerant compressor (13). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, refrigerant compressor to timing case/crankcase/engine support *BA83.55-P-1001-01M 
12 Remove screw (11) of refrigerant compressor (13), take off holder (12) and take out refrigerant compressor (13) upward. NOTES Remove refrigerant compressor (13) carefully.
Otherwise, surrounding component parts or the refrigerant compressor (13) may be damaged.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, refrigerant compressor to timing case/crankcase/engine support *BA83.55-P-1001-01M 
13 Correct oil level of refrigerant compressor (13). Engine 276 in model 213, 222 with code 1U6 (R744 refrigerant)

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Oil drain screw (CO2 ) on refrigerant compressor *BA83.55-P-1012-01M 
14 Place refrigerant compressor (13) for
10 minutes onto belt pulley (4) and then turn
belt pulley (4) to and fro 3 times through approx
90°.

When replacing the refrigerant compressor (13)
IMPORTANT This serves to fill the area surrounding the slide ring seal with oil.
 
15 Install in the reverse order.    
16 Perform commissioning of refrigerant compressor (13) with diagnostic system, and read out and erase the fault memory. When replacing the refrigerant compressor (13)

17 Perform engine test run; while doing so check engine and air conditioning system for proper operation and leak tightness.    
18 Install lower engine compartment lining. Engine 276 in model 222 AR61.20-P-1105LF
