Inspect Cooling System For Leaks - AR20.00-P-1010LW

WARNING Risk of injury  to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing coolant. Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Switch on ignition.    
2 Adjust heater to maximum heat output.    
3 Remove front and center section of lower engine compartment linings.   AR61.20-P-1105LW
4 Slowly unscrew cap (1) at coolant expansion reservoir (2) and release overpressure if necessary.    
5 Check coolant level and antifreeze content of coolant. FLUID SPECIFICATION Coolant mixing ratio *BF20.00-P-1001-04A 
6 Screw tester cap (3) onto coolant expansion reservoir (2). SPECIAL TOOL Test cap Fig 1
7 Connect pressure pump (4) at tester cap (3). SPECIAL TOOL Pressure pump Fig 2
INSPECT Check     
8 Apply a test pressure to the engine cooling system for 2 minutes. NOTES
Do not exceed the specified test pressure. Damage will occur otherwise to the engine cooling system.
IMPORTANT There should be no pressure loss within a period of 2 minutes.

9 Perform visual check of coolant-carrying component parts and connecting points for condition and coolant loss. If a pressure loss exists

Replace damaged assembly part.
 
INSTALLING Install     
10 Drain off overpressure via valve at pressure pump (4). SPECIAL TOOL Pressure pump Fig 2
11 Unscrew pressure pump (4) from tester cap (3).    
12 Unscrew tester cap (3) at coolant expansion reservoir (2). SPECIAL TOOL Test cap Fig 1
13 Switch off ignition.    
14 Check coolant level and antifreeze content of coolant; correct if necessary. FLUID SPECIFICATION Coolant mixing ratio *BF20.00-P-1001-04A 
15 Screw cap (1) onto coolant expansion reservoir (2).    
16 Install front and center section of lower engine compartment linings.   AR61.20-P-1105LW
