Substitute lights and emergency lights actuation, function - GF82.10-P-3080RF

Function requirements, general 

IMPORTANT The electronic ignition switch control unit (N73) transmits the circuit status c. 15 via the interior CAN (CAN B).

Substitute lamp actuation/emergency light actuation, general 

The substitute lamp actuation/emergency light actuation ensures operation of the minimum exterior lighting in the event of failure of individual system components for the vehicle's exterior lights.

The substitute lamp actuation/emergency light actuation is comprised of the following subfunctions:

Function sequence for substitute lamp actuation 

The rear SAM control unit (N10/8) continuously monitors the function of the vehicle's rear lighting.

If individual system components malfunction, their function is simulated by actuating other components, with pulse width modulation if necessary. Flashing functions have priority over steady light when this takes place.

In the event of failure of the left rear turn signal light (E3e1) (except CODE 460 (Canada version) and except CODE 494 (USA version)) or of the right rear turn signal light (E4e1) (except CODE 460 (Canada version) and except CODE 494 (USA version)), the left brake light (E3e4) or the right brake light (E4e4) is actuated at a flasher frequency.

A failure of the rear turn signal light is shown on the instrument cluster (A1). To this end, the rear SAM control unit sends corresponding information via interior CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and user interface CAN (CAN HMI) to the instrument cluster.

Function sequence for emergency light actuation 

In case of a bus failure of the interior CAN, the front SAM control unit (N10/6) and the rear SAM control unit activate a software emergency light. The rear SAM control unit then actuates the taillights and the brake lights (depending on the status of circuit 54). The front SAM control unit activates the standing lights and low beams.

In case of a bus failure of the periphery CAN (CAN PER) (on vehicles with CODE 631 (Static left-hand traffic LED headlamp) or CODE 632 (Static right-hand traffic LED headlamp) or CODE 640 (High Performance LED) or CODE 641 (DYNAMIC LEFT-HAND TRAFFIC LED HEADLAMP) or CODE 642 (DYNAMIC RIGHT-HAND TRAFFIC LED HEADLAMP)), the left headlamp control unit (E1n9) and the right headlamp control unit (E2n9) activate a software emergency light. The headlamp control units activate the standing lights and the low beams.

In case of failure of the rain/light sensor with additional functions (B38/2) or in case of communication failure with the rain/light sensor with additional functions, the front SAM control unit assumes that it is "Night" and the auto on/off driving lights are activated.

The left headlamp control unit, the right headlamp control unit, the left front actuation module, LED exterior lighting (E1n7) (with CODE 640 (High Performance LED) or CODE 641 (DYNAMIC LEFT-HAND TRAFFIC LED HEADLAMP) or CODE 642 (DYNAMIC RIGHT-HAND TRAFFIC LED HEADLAMP)) and the right front actuation module, LED exterior lighting (E2n7) (with CODE 640 (High Performance LED) or CODE 641 (DYNAMIC LEFT-HAND TRAFFIC LED HEADLAMP) or CODE 642 (DYNAMIC RIGHT-HAND TRAFFIC LED HEADLAMP)) are powered by the front SAM control unit. The voltage supply via circuit 30L from the front SAM control unit occurs crosswise. In other words, if the front SAM control unit is defective or if circuit 30L is missing or a driver has failed, then the low beams are actuated on one side of the vehicle, for example, and the standing lights are actuated on the other side.
