TV mode, general

The tuner unit makes it possible to receive digital TV channels in the vehicle and show them on the audio/COMAND display. If the head unit is not switched on, it can be activated via the "ON" button in the left lower control panel (with manual transmission) or in the right lower control panel (with automatic transmission). The signal is forwarded to the head unit by the left lower control panel (with manual transmission) or by the right lower control panel (with automatic transmission) via the lower control panel LIN, the Audio/COMAND control panel and the telematics CAN.

The TV functions can be selected, activated and set with the controls of the left multifunction steering wheel button group and right multifunction steering wheel button group. The control signals of the left multifunction steering wheel button group and the right multifunction steering wheel button group are forwarded as follows:

Steering wheel electronics →

Steering LIN →

Steering column tube module control unit →

Chassis FlexRay →

Electronic ignition lock control unit →

User interface CAN →

Instrument cluster →

User interface CAN →

Head unit

The TV functions can be selected, activated and set with the Audio/COMAND controller of the Audio/COMAND control panel. The "Back" button supports navigation in the menus. The control signal are transmitted to the head unit by the Audio/COMAND control panel via telematics CAN.

The TV functions can be operated with the touchpad (as of 01.06.2015 with code 448 (Touchpad) or with code 498 (Japan version)). The control signals are transmitted to the head unit by the touchpad via telematics CAN.

The TV functions can be activated on the upper control panel control unit. The volume can be changed on the left lower control panel (with manual transmission) or on the right lower control panel (with automatic transmission) using the volume control button. The control signals are forwarded as follows:

LCP LIN →

Audio/COMAND control panel →

Telematics CAN →

Head unit

The tuner unit separates the video and audio signals that are contained in the TV signals. The TV mode is therefore comprised as follows:

Function sequence for reception of TV signals

TV 1 signals are received as follows:

Rear window antenna →

TV 1 and DAB band III antenna amplifier (model 205.0/1) or FM 2, DAB and TV 1 antenna amplifier (model 205.2, 253) →

Tuner unit

IMPORTANT Model 205, 253

with code 531 (COMAND APS)

with code 537 (Digital radio (DAB))

with code 865 (TV tuner)

The tuner unit receives digital radio (DAB) band III signals via the same input as the TV 1 signals. The tuner unit separates the signals internally with an integrated antenna splitter.

The TV 2 signal (model 205.0/1) and TV 3 signal are received as follows:

Windshield antenna →

TV 2 antenna amplifier (model 205.0/1) or TV 3 antenna amplifier →

Tuner unit

On model 205.2, 253, the TV 2 signal is received as follows:

Windshield antenna →

TV 2 and DAB band III antenna amplifier →

TV and DAB antenna splitter (with code 537 (Digital radio (DAB))) →

Tuner unit

The tuner unit processes the TV signals and separates the video signals from the audio signals.

Function sequence for output of video signals

The video signals are transferred via LVDS lines as follows:

Tuner unit →

Head unit →

Audio/COMAND display

Function sequence for output of audio signals

In vehicles except code 810 (Sound system), the tuner unit transfers the audio signals via the MOST to the head unit. The head unit amplifies the audio signals and outputs them over the speaker system. On vehicles with CODE 810 (Sound system), the tuner unit forwards the audio signals via the MOST to the sound system amplifier control unit, which amplifies the audio signals and outputs them over the speaker system.

Additional information (with CODE 498 (Japan version))
