Location

On model 205 vehicles, the sound system amplifier control unit is located in the trunk behind the cover for the right sidewall on a bracket. On model 253 vehicles, the sound system amplifier control unit is installed under the trunk floor in front of the lamp unit at the right rear (E4).

Tasks

The sound system amplifier control unit has the following tasks:

Receive signals
Decoding, supporting and amplifying signals
Transmitting signals

Receive signals

The sound system amplifier control unit receives the following signals:

Power supply via circuit 30 and circuit 31
Audio muting (MUTE), from emergency call system control unit (N123/4) (with code 348 (Emergency call/assist system)) or from telematics services communications module (N112/1) (with code 350 (E-Call Europe emergency call system), with code 06U (Mercedes connect me basic services))
Visual and electrical wake-up signal
Audio signals via Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST), from the head unit (A26/17) or from the tuner unit (A90/4) (with code 536 (SIRIUS satellite radio), with code 537 (Digital radio (DAB)) or with code 865 (TV tuner))
Audio parameters over MOST from head unit (e.g. volume and tone settings)
Synthesized sound signals from the engine sound control unit (N40/1) (with engine 276)

Decoding, supporting and amplifying signals

Decoding of copy-protected audio signals based on Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology
Supporting surround sound
Supporting stereo entertainment channels and announcement channels (e.g. for voice output of navigation instructions, etc.)
Amplifying decoded audio signals
Processing synthesized sound signals from the engine sound control unit (with engine 276)
