Persons who wear electronic implants (e.g. cardiac pacemakers), must not carry out any work on high-voltage on-board electrical systems. AS54.00-Z-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Switch off ignition and keep transmitter key at a location beyond transmitter range (at least 2 m)    
2 Perform disable for the high-voltage on-board electrical system   AR54.10-P-1150NKE
3 Detach lower steering shaft from connection in driver footwell   AR46.10-P-0500-01NKB
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Clamp screw, steering coupling to rack- and-pinion steering *BA46.10-P-1001-01H 
SPECIAL TOOL Retainer device Fig 6
4 Secure vehicle on vehicle lift   AR00.60-P-0100CW
5 Remove front wheel-and-tire assemblies    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP40.10-P-4050AK
6 Detach lower engine compartment paneling   AR61.20-P-1105NKB
7 Remove front fender liner   AR88.10-P-1300NKB
8 Detach underfloor paneling   AR61.30-P-1001NKB
9 Unscrew screw/bolt (2) from washer fluid reservoir on left crossbar (1b)    
10 Remove left crossbar (1b) and right crossbar (1a) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Do not swap left crossbar (1b) and right crossbar (1a). Ensure that the installation position is correct.  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, radiator support to connecting carrier *BA62.30-P-1003-04D 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, connecting carrier to front axle carrier *BA62.30-P-1004-04D 
11 Detach stabilizer bar link rod from torsion bar TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking nut, connecting rod to torsion bar *BA32.20-P-1002-02K 
12 Unscrew screws/bolts (7) at engine stabilizer mount (8) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, pendulum rod at top to bearing bracket *BA22.10-P-1002-03L 
13 Unscrew screws/bolts (9) from rear transverse control arm bearings on frame floor assembly   AR33.20-P-0510NKB 
14 Unscrew nuts (3) from PTC heater booster bracket (4) on integral carrier (14) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, heater bracket to integral carrier *BA83.20-P-1001-01D 
15 Detach electrical connections from electrical power steering control unit and detach wiring harness from rack-and-pinion steering   AR46.20-P-0701NKB
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace cable tie and ensure correct routing of the electrical wiring harness.  
16 Unscrew screw/bolt (21) and place bracket (20) with electrical lines aside TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, bracket for mounting clamp for lines to steering gear *BA46.20-P-1006-01I 
17 Detach electrical connections from front-axle level sensor Model 242 with engine 780
up to model year 2015
with code 614 (Bi-xenon headlamps)

18 Detach electrical connection from front right brake wear sensor and remove brake wear sensor connector from brake caliper TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, brake wear connector to brake caliper *BA42.10-P-1004-10N 
19 Detach rpm sensors on front axle at left and right with cable duct (5) on steering knuckles (6) and place to one side TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, rpm sensor to steering knuckle *BA42.30-P-1001-01F 
20 Detach electrical connections (10) in area of rear transverse control arm bearing IMPORTANT The electrical lines remain on the transverse control arms.  
21 Detach wiring harness (12) from bracket (11) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace cable tie.  
22 Detach wiring harness (13) from integral carrier (14) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace cable tie.  
23 Unscrew screws/bolts (15, 16) and remove struts (17) IMPORTANT The PTC heater booster (18) must be secured against falling down.  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, strut to integral carrier/lattice beam *BA83.20-P-1002-01D 
24 Detach tie rods from steering knuckles (6)   AR46.40-P-0200-02CW

25 Pry off supporting ball joints from steering knuckles (6)   AR33.20-P-0440-01NKB
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, supporting ball joint/transverse control arm to steering knuckle *BA33.15-P-1005-01F

26 Support front axle carrier against falling down   AR33.10-P-0105NKB 
27 Unscrew screws/bolts from front axle carrier on frame floor assembly TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, front-axle carrier to body *BA33.10-P-1001-01G 
28 Lower and remove front axle INSTALLATION NOTES
Slowly and carefully retract front axle.
Otherwise the high-voltage electrical lines may be pinched or damaged.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Ensure that PTC heater booster (17) is seated correctly.
 
29 Install in the reverse order    
30 Perform wheel alignment check   AR40.20-P-0200NKB
