1	Check whether vehicle is affected by measure	Affected vehicles: Update software of control units (code: NC3N651 K, acc. no.: 07 971 64) For authorized Mercedes-Benz service partners, only the entry in the input-process-output (IPO) system, in the "Current" tab is decisive. An additional test of the affected vehicles in the workshop information system (WIS) or vehicle list is thereby not necessary.	SM54.21-D-0205-01AAA
	Update software
2	Connect charging equipment. 000 588 00 81 00 Charger	During the entire work procedure a sufficiently large voltage supply must be provided for the vehicle's on-board electrical system. Otherwise any under voltage that occurs may damage the control units. Follow the operating instructions for the charger. Use the charger to ensure that an adequate power supply (min. 12.5 V) is provided for the on-board electrical system battery.	WS54.00-P-0037B
3	Connect diagnostic system.	Always use the latest XENTRY Diagnosis software release with all relevant updated addons. The operation steps must be performed exactly as per XENTRY Diagnosis. For questions or problems that arise while carrying out the service measure described here, contact may only be made by creating a ticket in the XENTRY Support & Feedback (XSF) system under the tab "XENTRY Diagnosis" or "Parts". 4	Start service measure special procedure in XENTRY Diagnosis.	The service measure may only be carried out via the described special procedures; other procedures are not permitted. Otherwise correct routing of the control unit programming described below cannot be assured.
		Perform software update only after obtaining the customer's written consent.  XENTRY Diagnosis queries this when carrying out the special procedure via the menu item "Has the customer given their approval?" accordingly. Confirm menu item in "YES" control field, otherwise the special procedure cannot be continued. XENTRY Diagnosis guides you through the procedure of the service measure. The operation steps in XENTRY Diagnosis must be complied with precisely at all times. To do this, select the following menu items: Control units view → N3/28 - Engine electronics 'CDID3' for combustion engine 'OM651' (CDI) (Code: MA5/MP6/MP8/MA6/MB6) → Special procedures → Service measure "Exhaust gas aftertreatment" →  1. Check component parts "NOx sensors". If XENTRY Diagnosis displays the message "Component parts A97/1 (NOx sensor control unit upstream of SCR catalytic converter) or A97/2 (NOx sensor control unit downstream of SCR catalytic converter) are not OK", ↓ continue with operation step 5. It must always be both sensors that are replaced. When ordering the two NO x  sensors, it is essential to observe the part numbers in the parts ordering note below.  If XENTRY Diagnosis displays the message "Component parts A97/1 (NOx sensor control unit upstream of SCR catalytic converter) and A97/2 (NOx sensor control unit downstream of SCR catalytic converter) are OK",
		↓ Continue with operation step 24.
	Replace NO x  sensor upstream of SCR catalytic converter
5	Raise vehicle.	Before lifting vehicle, remove stationary heater hose from left front longitudinal member. This prevents damage.	AR00.60-D-1000H
6	Remove underfloor paneling (1).	MODEL 906 with CODE XM1 (Noise abatement measures) For this purpose, remove screws (1.2) and remove nuts (1.1).
7	Release heat shield (6).	Model 906 as of model year 2016 To do so, remove clamp (7) and carefully bend heat shield (6) downwards. Installation:  Install new clamp (7).
8	Disconnect electrical connector (4).
9	Remove NOx sensor control unit upstream of SCR catalytic converter (A97/1).	For this purpose, remove nuts.
10	Expose electric line (5).	To do so, cut through the cable ties. Installation:  Replace cable tie.
11	Unscrew NOx sensor (2) and remove together with NOx sensor control unit upstream of SCR catalytic converter (A97/1).	Removal:  Spray threaded connection with suitable antiseize. Observe the time and manufacturer's specifications of the antiseize used! NOx sensor to diesel particulate filter	*BA07.04-N-1015-01B
12	Clean thread and sealing surfaces on diesel particulate filter.	Commercially available devices/tools  Wire brushes
13	Install in the reverse sequence.	Operation steps 11 to 6.
	Replace NO x  sensor downstream of SCR catalytic converter
14	Unclip electric line (15) from bracket (16) on heat shield (8).	If bracket (16) is present.
15	Remove heat shield (8).	To do so, remove clamps.
		Installation:  Replace clips.
16	Disconnect electrical connector (10).
17	Remove NOx sensor control unit downstream of SCR catalytic converter (A97/2).	For this purpose, remove nuts.
18	Expose electrical line (15).	To do so, cut through the cable ties. Installation:  Replace cable tie.
19	Unscrew NOx sensor (9) and remove with NOx sensor control units downstream of SCR catalytic converter (A97/2).	Removal:  Spray threaded connection with suitable antiseize. Observe the time and manufacturer's specifications of the antiseize used! NOx sensor on SCR catalytic converter	*BA07.04-N-1014-01B
20	Clean thread and sealing surface of NOx sensor (9) on catalytic converter (11).	Commercially available devices/tools  Wire brushes
21	Install in the reverse sequence.	Operation steps 20 to 14.
22	Lower vehicle.
23	Get in CDI control unit (N3/33) again using XENTRY Diagnosis.	If both NOx sensors were replaced as part of this service measure. The service measure may only be carried out via the described special procedures; other procedures are not permitted. Otherwise correct routing of the control unit programming described below cannot be assured. XENTRY Diagnosis guides you through the procedure of the service measure. The operation steps in XENTRY Diagnosis must be complied with precisely at all times. To do this, select the following menu items: Control units view → N3/28 - Engine electronics 'CDID3' for combustion engine 'OM651' (CDI) (Code: MA5/MP6/MP8/MA6/MB6) → Special procedures → Service measure "Exhaust gas  aftertreatment" →  2. Adaptation after replacing component part "NOx sensors"
24	Perform control unit programming via service measure special procedure.	XENTRY Diagnosis guides you through the procedure of the service measure. The operation steps must be performed exactly as per XENTRY Diagnosis. Here, the software of affected control units (CDI control unit (N3/28), AdBlue® (SCR) control unit (N141/1), fully integrated transmission control unit VGSNAG2 (N15/11) (if available)) is updated. To do this, select the following menu items: Control units view → N3/28 - Engine electronics 'CDID3' for combustion engine 'OM651' (CDI) (Code: MA5/MP6/MP8/MA6/MB6) → Special procedures → Service measure "Exhaust gas aftertreatment" →  3. Perform control unit programming. If control unit programming is canceled it must be ensured that all affected control units  (CDI control unit (N3/28), AdBlue® control unit (SCR) (N141/1), fully integrated transmission control unit VGSNAG2 (N15/11) (if available)) have the current software release  and, if necessary, repeat service measure procedure. Control unit programming due to an out of date software release of control units must not be invoiced under this service measure! After carrying out control unit programming, always perform the following visual check in the "documentation for repair order":  under the heading: - Engine electronics 'CDID3' for - combustion engine 'OM651' must be documented under the line "Performed steps" entries for "Control unit programming" and "SCN coding". If no entries are present, ↓
		start operation step 4 again.
25	Remove vehicle diagnosis system from vehicle.
26	Remove charger from vehicle.
	Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.	Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.	AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
27	Check exhaust system for leak tightness while engine is running.	Visual inspection only.
28	Document performed operations in the Vehicle Documentation (VeDoc).	If "Component parts A97/1 (NOx sensor control unit upstream of SCR catalytic converter) and (or) A97/2 (NOx sensor control unit downstream of SCR catalytic converter) were replaced. Document the following text in VeDoc under the "FO texts" field: "Vehicle has been modified as part of a service measure (NC3N651K) with  the NOx sensor downstream of SCR catalytic converter (part number: A 000 905 84 11) and  with the NOx sensor upstream of SCR catalytic converter (part number: A 000 905 85 11)".
29	Print out certificate, fill it out and hand it over to customer.
