DANGER Risk of poisoning  caused by inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors from an air conditioning system containing R134a. Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by contact with liquid R134a refrigerant and when working on pressurized parts Never perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated rooms. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been evacuated. Model 231

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Drain air conditioning system   AR83.30-P-1760YF 
2 Remove engine compartment paneling at front   AR61.20-P-1105RK
3 Remove bolt (21) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, line to condenser *BA83.30-P-1022-01A 
4 Remove refrigerant line (2) from condenser (15)    
REFER TO CAPACITIES & SPECIFICATIONS Compressor oils (specification 362.1) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT The sealing ring of the refrigerant line (2) must be replaced and moistened with compressor oil. MB 362.1 refrigerant compressor oil (Specification 362.1). See https://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/index.php?language_id=1
5 Close off openings of refrigerant line (2) and condenser (15) using suitable stop plugs. NOTES
The openings of the refrigerant line (2) and condenser (15) must be sealed.
Otherwise penetrating dirt and moisture will damage the components that are connected to the refrigerant circuit.
 
    SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Figure
6 Unscrew nut (22) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, line to inner heat exchanger *BA83.30-P-1021-01A 
7 Open line bracket (23)    
8 Remove refrigerant line (2) from refrigerant line (3)    
9 Close off openings at refrigerant line (2) and condenser refrigerant line (3) with suitable stop plugs NOTES
The openings of the refrigerant line (2, 3) must be sealed.
Otherwise penetrating dirt and moisture will damage the components that are connected to the refrigerant circuit.
 
    SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Figure
10 Route refrigerant line (2) through opening of air duct segment (24) and remove from engine compartment    
11 Install in the reverse order    
INSPECT Check     
12 Evacuate the air conditioning system, refill it, and then check the system to make sure that it functions correctly and does not leak   AR83.30-P-1760YF
