DANGER Risk of injury.  Moving parts can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases even sever extremities. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area of mechanical components when moving components. Model 217, 222 with code P17 (KEYLESS-GO package) AS00.00-Z-0009-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte or due to short circuit. Risk of burn injuries  due to thermal changes. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing battery electrolyte. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses. In the event of escaping battery electrolyte, battery vapors, battery mist, smoke or heat development, secure the area, leave it and alert the fire department. Model 217.37/4

DANGER Risk of explosion  from explosive gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury  through burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses.
Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Model 217.3 (except 217.37)

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Switch off all electrical consumers NOTES
All electrical consumers must be switched off. Otherwise electrical consumers may be damaged when disconnecting/connecting the ground line (2, 4, 7).
 
2 Switch off ignition and keep transmitter key outside transmitter range (at least 2 m)    
3 Open engine hood Model 222.004/057/104/157/163
IMPORTANT Due to the open engine hood contact switches, the pre-entry climate control is deactivated thereby ensuring that current cannot flow in the 12-V on-board electrical system.

7 Cover ground line (2, 4, 7) and secure it to prevent contact with the body and the negative terminal    
8 Push cover (5) to the side Model 222.004/057/104/157/163  
9 Remove cover over coolant expansion reservoir Model 222.004/057/104/157/163  
10.1 Check voltage between positive terminal of on- board electrical system battery (G1) and disconnected ground line (2) using diode test lamp Model 217.364/382/384/385

NOTES
If voltage is present, the on-board electrical system is still active due to a fault.
Danger of damage due to short circuit.
If the on-board electrical system is still active:

Disconnect ground line from additional battery.

Rectify fault in on-board electrical system.

10.2 Check voltage between jump-start connection point at engine compartment prefuse box and jump-start ground point (6) using diode test lamp Model 222.004/057/104/157/163
NOTES
If voltage is present, the on-board electrical system is still active due to a fault.
Danger of damage due to short circuit.
If the on-board electrical system is still active:

Disconnect ground line from additional battery.

Rectify fault in on-board electrical system.
