Check and correct the adjustment of the headlamps - AP82.10-P-8260SX

INSPECT Check     
DANGER Risk of death  due to high voltage in xenon headlamps. Risk of explosion/risk of fire  caused by highly flammable materials in the vicinity of damaged xenon bulbs. Risk of injury  caused by UV light, hot components at xenon headlamps and glass splinters produced by bursting xenon bulbs. Risk of poisoning  caused by inhalation of mercury vapors and by toxic salts and mercury compounds being ingested or coming into contact with skin Do not touch parts conducting high voltage. Persons with active electronic implants  (e.g. cardiac pacemakers) must never work on xenon headlamps. Switch off the entire lighting system. Wear insulated safety shoes, safety glasses and protective gloves. Remove highly inflammable materials from the hazard area. Ensure sufficient ventilation in the working area. AS82.10-Z-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
1 Park the vehicle on a horizontal, level surface    
2 Put vehicle in read-to-drive condition IMPORTANT Vehicle in ready-to-drive condition means:
  • Curb weight
  • Correct tire pressure
  • Vehicle at normal level
  • Steering is in straight-ahead position
 
3 Open engine hood    
4 Prepare headlamp aimer (01)    
IMPORTANT Notes on determining headlamp aiming values   AH82.10-P-1005-01A
    IMPORTANT Align headlamp aimer (01) approx. 10 to max. 30 cm in front of the headlamps parallel to the vehicle at the height of the light source. Set specified headlamp inclination on scale of headlamp aimer (01).

5 Switch on low beam at rotary light switch (S1) IMPORTANT Do not  switch on turn signal, rear fog lamp and Night View Assist!  
6 Check headlamp range control for proper function   AP82.10-P-8250EW 
For vehicles with halogen headlamps, after completion of function test of headlamp range adjustment:

Move headlamp range controller to 0 position.
 
7.1 Switch on ignition MODEL 216
with CODE 489 (AIRMATIC)
MODEL 221
without CODE 487 (Active Body Control (ABC))
 
7.2 Start engine MODEL 216
without CODE 489 (AIRMATIC)
MODEL 221
with CODE 487 (Active Body Control (ABC))
 
8 Get out with the engine running and close driver door MODEL 216
without CODE 489 (AIRMATIC)
MODEL 221
with CODE 487 (Active Body Control (ABC))
 
9 Check low beam setting and adjust if necessary   AP82.10-P-8260-01SX
On vehicles with xenon or LED headlamps:
↓
Conduct zero position adjustment of headlamp subject to separate repair order.
 
10 Check setting of high beam   AP82.10-P-8260-02SX
11 Check front fog light adjustment and correct if necessary On vehicles with front fog lamps

12.1 Switch off lights and ignition MODEL 216
with CODE 489 (AIRMATIC)
MODEL 221
without CODE 487 (Active Body Control (ABC))
IMPORTANT Put vehicle back in its original condition.
 
12.2 Switch off light and turn off engine MODEL 216
without CODE 489 (AIRMATIC)
MODEL 221
with CODE 487 (Active Body Control (ABC))
IMPORTANT Put vehicle back in its original condition.
 
13 Adjust headlamp range controller on rotary light switch (S1) to match load condition On vehicles with halogen headlamps  
14 Close engine hood
