Check air conditioning system for leakage - AR83.30-P-1761NKU

MODEL 117, 156, 176, 231, 242, 246 except CODE 2U8 (Refrigerant R-1234yf)

DANGER Risk of injury  due to fan starting unexpectedly Do not reach into the rotation or hazard area of the fan. Wear closed and close-fitting work clothes. AS20.40-Z-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by welding or soldering work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning  caused by inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by contact with liquid refrigerant. Do not perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been drained. AS83.00-Z-0001-01A

  A/C system evacuated
1 Evacuate air conditioning system   AR83.30-P-1760NKB
2 Fill air conditioning system with nitrogen and test for leaks
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 10 21 00 Leak tester   WS83.00-P-0008B
IMPORTANT Fill system with a system pressure of 15 bar only when engine is cold. This system pressure must be maintained for at least 4 h. Fill high and low-pressure side of air conditioning with nitrogen.
IMPORTANT Temperature changes during the pressure test (e.g. through change in weather or cooling down of the engine compartment overnight) can cause pressure surges. Consistent ambient conditions must be strictly ensured.

3 Check refrigerant circuit of air conditioning for leaks using leak detection spray If a pressure drop is determined.
Leak detection spray
If a leak is determined in the refrigerant circuit:

Drain nitrogen and replace damaged refrigerant circuit components.

4 Drain nitrogen
5 Charge air conditioning system   AR83.30-P-1760NKB
  Fill A/C system
6 Light up the complete engine compartment with a UV lamp, if necessary remove the remains of the existing contrast agent using special cleaner and wash the engine Model 117, 156, 176, 231, 242 (except 242.89), 246
except code 2U8 (Refrigerant R-1234yf)
IMPORTANTCommercially available devices/tools:

7 Fill refrigerant circuit of A/C system using leakage detection additive Model 117, 156, 176, 231, 242 (except 242.89), 246
except code 2U8 (Refrigerant R-1234yf)
IMPORTANT Use only the approved MB leak detector additive. If it is proven that a different leak detector additive has been used, we will refuse to reimburse costs within the warranty and goodwill period. Daimler AG reserves the right to perform reexaminations.
IMPORTANT Carry out steps as per the operating instructions of the UV leak detection kit.

8 Check refrigerant circuit of A/C system for leaks Model 117, 156, 176, 231, 242 (except 242.89), 246
except code 2U8 (Refrigerant R-1234yf)
If a leak is determined in the refrigerant circuit:

Evacuate A/C system and replace damaged refrigerant circuit components.
