DANGER Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Drain air conditioning system MODEL 242 with ENGINE 780
without CODE 2U8 (Refrigerant R-1234yf)

INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Evacuate air conditioning and then fill it.
2 Eliminate vacuum in BAS brake booster (A7/7) IMPORTANT To do this, press the brake pedal several times with the engine switched off.  
3 Remove engine cover MODEL 117, 156, 176 with ENGINE 133

4 Remove air filter housing MODEL 117, 156, 176 with ENGINE 133 AR09.10-P-1150MTA

5 Remove rear bottom part of soundproofing MODEL 117, 156, 176, 246 with ENGINE 607, 651

6 Remove engine air intake duct upstream of turbocharger and downstream of air filter housing MODEL 117, 156, 176, 246 with ENGINE 651

IMPORTANT The engine air intake duct upstream of turbocharger remains in the engine compartment.
7 Remove battery   AR54.10-P-0005NKB
8 Remove side paneling (3) MODEL 117, 156, 176, 246
MODEL 242 with ENGINE 270
IMPORTANT To do so, press in notches (4) and take out side paneling (3) of battery base (5) in direction of travel.
 
9 Disconnect electrical connector on brake fluid level switch (S11) and unclip electrical line (7) from master brake cylinder INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replacing retaining clip
IMPORTANT Observe routing of electrical line (7).
 
10 Unclip ground line (1) from battery base (5) and remove INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace retaining clip if necessary.  
11 Remove battery base (5) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, battery frame to battery bracket *BA54.10-P-1002-01I 
12 Unclip positive line (2) from bracket (6) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace retaining clip if necessary.  
13 Detach purging switchover valve from bracket (6) MODEL 117, 156, 176, 242, 246 with ENGINE 133, 270  
14 Detach bracket (15) from body MODEL 242 with ENGINE 780  
15 Unscrew nut (17) and place refrigerant line (16) to one side MODEL 242 with ENGINE 780
IMPORTANT Close off connections immediately using suitable stop plugs.

16 Detach bracket (6) from body TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, battery bracket to body *BA54.10-P-1001-01I 
17.1 Pull check valve (8) out of BAS brake booster (A7/7) MODEL 117, 156, 176, 246
MODEL 242 with ENGINE 270
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace rubber seal on BAS brake booster (A7/7).
 
17.2 Remove vacuum line (18) MODEL 242 with ENGINE 780  
AR43.10-P-0355NKB 
18 Unlock retaining clip (19) and place refrigerant line (16) to one side MODEL 242 with ENGINE 780  
19 Unscrew nuts (20) and place refrigerant line (16) to one side MODEL 242 with ENGINE 780
IMPORTANT Close off connections immediately using suitable stop plugs.

20 Remove nut (21) and place electrical line (22) to one side    
21 Release and disconnect electrical connection on brake vacuum sensor (B64/1) IMPORTANT MODEL 242 with ENGINE 780
Two brake vacuum sensors (B64/1) present.
 
22 Unscrew cap and remove sieve from brake fluid reservoir (9)    
23 Suction off brake fluid from the brake fluid expansion reservoir (9)    
24 Detach feed hose for clutch master cylinder from brake fluid reservoir (9) MODEL 117, 156, 176, 242, 246 with TRANSMISSION 711
NOTES Protect painted surfaces from brake fluid. Otherwise damage can occur to the vehicle paint.
IMPORTANT Seal the connections immediately using stop plugs.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Install new seal between feed hose and brake fluid reservoir (9) if necessary.
 
SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 3
25 Mark brake lines (10) relative to the corresponding connections    
26 Detach brake lines (10) from master brake cylinder NOTES Collect brake fluid which runs out with an absorbent rag.
Otherwise damage can occur to the vehicle paint.
NOTES Seal connections on master brake cylinder. This prevents foreign objects from entering.
IMPORTANT Seal the connections immediately using stop plugs.
 
IMPORTANT Retaining screw, brake line to master brake cylinder *BA42.10-P-1003-04L

27 Remove driver kneebag MODEL 117, 156, 176, 242, 246 with CODE 294 (Kneebag)

28 Remove accelerator pedal and place to one side with electrical line connected   AR30.12-P-1321NKB
29 Remove air duct (14) in driver footwell    
30 Remove safety screw (11) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace safety screw (11).  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Brake booster to brake pedal *BA43.10-P-1002-01J 
31 Unscrew nuts (12) of BAS brake booster (A7/7) from brake pedal TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, brake booster carrier to front end *BA43.10-P-1001-01J 
32 Take out BAS brake booster (A7/7) NOTES Press brake lines (10) to the side carefully and do not deform.
Otherwise these must be replaced.
NOTES Do not damage the boot (13) when removing and installing BAS brake booster (A7/7). Otherwise the BAS brake booster (A7/7) must be replaced.
IMPORTANT When removing the BAS brake booster (A7/7) turn the engine air intake duct upstream of the turbocharger and place out of the working area.
 
33 Remove brake master cylinder When replacing the BAS brake booster (A7/7).

34 Install in the reverse order    
35 Bleed brake system   AR42.10-P-0010NKB
36 Carry out brake test on the test stand
