	Remove/install
1	Switch off ignition and keep transmitter key at a location beyond transmitter range (at least 2 m)

	Clean
3	Clean the surrounding area of the electrical connection (1) and the Electronic Stability Program control unit (N304)	Before opening the brake system the area around the separation point should be cleaned thoroughly. Only use clean, lint free rags and cleaner free of mineral oil. Do not use any compressed-air for cleaning when the brake system is open. Even the smallest particles of dirt, introduced into the hydraulic components, can lead to malfunctions and a total failure of the brake system.
4	Disconnect electrical connection (1) on Electronic Stability Program control unit (N304)	Model 117, 156, 176, 242, 246 except code 239 (DISTRONIC PLUS) The work instructions for disconnecting the electrical connection (1) must be followed. Otherwise damage can be caused to the locking mechanism. Do not touch, deform or damage contacts of electrical connection (1) and of jack on Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4). Do not allow any foreign objects, dirt or fluids to enter the jack or the electrical connector (1). Otherwise the Electronic Stability Program control unit (N304) may be damaged or may malfunction. 5	Unscrew screws/bolts (2)	Screws/bolts (2) must be replaced.

6	Detach Electronic Stability Program control unit (N304) from traction system hydraulic unit (A73) and take out	Do not touch the contact areas or sealing silicone of the Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4) either with your hands or with tools. Otherwise, the Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4) could get damaged.
	Clean
7	Clean sealing surface on traction system hydraulic unit (A73)
8	Install in the reverse order
9	Carry out calibration of the Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4) with diagnostic system	When replacing Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4).
