Notes on installing a trailer hitch - AH31.10-P-1000-02Q

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 201 other vehicles, including the 2020 Mercedes-Benz SLC300, 2020 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG, 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA250, 2019 Mercedes-Benz SLC300, and 2019 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

MODEL 209.3## (except 209.376/377) 1# with CODE 550 (Trailer coupling) without CODE 772 (AMG styling package - front spoiler, side skirts and rear apron) without CODE 950 (Sports package - EVOLUTION AMG)

NOTES

IMPORTANT As part of liberalization of EU regulations the legislator waives any requirement for an inspection of retrofitted trailer hitch (AHV) at an authorized technical inspection station (for example Technical Inspection Association).

IMPORTANT Prerequisites:

For older vehicles or trailer hitches, with national test symbol (no E1-test symbol), the installation test at an authorized technical test point (e.g. Technical Inspection Association) continues to apply.

IMPORTANT The body sealant and underfloor protection must be removed from all the body mounting points of the trailer hitch. The mounting points should then be cleaned with a commercially available cleaning agent. Apply anticorrosion paint to bare-metal areas of the body.

IMPORTANT Trailer hitches are homologated safety-related parts. Their installation on the vehicle is to be carried out exclusively by trained, professional technicians. Trailer hitches, which are damaged because of an accident, bottoming or being run into from behind, must be replaced; subsequent alterations such as bending, mechanical processing or welding are not permissible.

NOTES The coupling ball must have a minimum diameter of 49 mm at all points, measured using a caliper gauge. The ball must be greased before use to reduce wear. Advise the customer accordingly.

Otherwise safety will be compromised.

IMPORTANT On trailers with an anti-swerve device  it is not necessary to grease the ball (refer to trailer instructions). Advise the customer accordingly.

IMPORTANT The customer should be asked to read the chapters entitled "trailer hitch" and "Trailer operation" in the vehicle's operating instructions.

IMPORTANT When retrofitting a trailer hitch on model 209.361 with automatic five-speed transmission (NAG), code 423, and on model 209.375 a shield must be retrofitted to the solenoid switch of the starter.

In the event that the listed component is not retrofitted this will render the warranty/goodwill null and void.

IMPORTANT When retrofitting a trailer hitch on model 209.316, an 850 W blower motor must be retrofitted for the radiator.

Failure to retrofit this component will render the warranty/goodwill warranty invalid.

IMPORTANT When retrofitting a trailer hitch on model 209.3, a 600 W blower motor may need to be retrofitted for the radiator. It should be checked in the EPC whether the electric fan fitted corresponding to the vehicle equipment can be used for retrofit of the trailer hitch (AHV). If necessary the electric fan should be removed and replaced by an electric fan which is compatible with the trailer hitch.

In the event that the listed component is not retrofitted this will render the warranty/goodwill null and void.

NOTES Always remind the customer that fuse 18 in the SAM control unit with the rear SAM fuse and relay module (N10/2) should be inserted in its socket only when a trailer is actually connected.

Otherwise another electrical device could discharge the battery while the vehicle is at a standstill.
