Notes on installing a trailer hitch - AH31.10-P-1000-02BK
MODEL 169, 245 (except 245.286)
The body sealant and underfloor protection must be removed from all the body mounting points of the trailer hitch. The mounting points should then be cleaned with a commercially available cleaning agent. Apply anticorrosion paint to bare-metal areas of the body.
Trailer hitches are homologated safety-related parts and must be installed on the vehicle by trained specialist personnel. Trailer hitches which have been damaged in an accident, by bottoming or by an impact from behind must be replaced; subsequent modifications such as bending, machining, welding, etc. are not permissible.
Otherwise, damage may occur and safe trailer operation is no longer guaranteed.
The ball diameter of the coupling ball must be at least 49 mm at all points.
Otherwise, the coupling ball must be replaced.
The ball must be greased before use to reduce wear.
For trailers with an anti-swerve device, it is not necessary to grease the coupling ball (see trailer instructions). Advise the customer accordingly.
The micro-encapsulated safety screws and self-locking nuts may only be used once. If parts of the trailer hitch are removed, new micro-encapsulated screws and self-locking nuts must be used when reinstalling these parts.
Otherwise, damage may occur and safe trailer operation will no longer be guaranteed.
Advise the customer to familiarize themselves with the chapters "Trailer hitch" and "Trailer operation" in the vehicle owner's manual.
