Notes on Towing - AH00.60-P-0100-02GA

Notes on tow starting and towing 

The tow-starting of a vehicle with automatic transmission is not allowed.

For transportation of a vehicle, where possible a breakdown vehicle or a vehicle trailer should be used.

If a vehicle needs to be towed, a tow bar should be used if possible.

Specifications for towing vehicles with transfer case 

NOTES When towing vehicles equipped with a transfer case the following notes must always be observed.

Avoid any damage to the transfer case.

For engine or transmission damage and for electrical faults 

For front and rear axle damage 

NOTES Fit nuts M10 as a spacer sleeve to the bolts on the on the transfer case flange and tighten with nuts M8.

This serves to avoid any damage to the housing on the transfer case in the event of the output flange turning.

IMPORTANT If the transfer case cannot be shifted to position "N", the vehicle may only be towed over a distance of 50 km and at a maximum speed of 50 km/h. For a towing distance of more than 50 km the drive shafts to the drive axles must be removed.

The following conditions must be fulfilled before a towing procedure when shifting the transfer case from position "HIGH" or "LOW" to "NEUTRAL":

IMPORTANT The transfer case is in position "NEUTRAL" when the multifunction display shows the "TRANSFER CASE IN NEUTRAL" message. If necessary, repeat shifting procedure.

The following conditions must be fulfilled after a towing procedure when shifting the transfer case from position "HIGH" or "LOW" to "NEUTRAL":

IMPORTANT The transfer case is in position "LOW" or "HIGH" when the multifunction display shows an "L" (LOW) or an "H" (HIGH). If necessary, repeat shifting procedure.
