Location

Front:

The front bumper DISTRONIC (DTR) sensors are inserted into the inner side at the left and right respectively into the front bumper.

Rear:

The left rear bumper radar sensor, right rear bumper radar sensor, intelligent left rear bumper radar sensor and the intelligent right rear bumper radar sensor are inserted from the inside into the rear bumper on the corresponding side. The center rear bumper radar sensor is inserted centrally on the inside into the rear bumper.

Task

The rear left bumper radar sensor, the rear right bumper radar sensor, the intelligent rear left bumper radar sensor and the intelligent rear right bumper radar sensor (short range sensor) recognize objects (e.g. vehicles) in the sj = short range up to s = 30 m for a maximum detection angle of ∠ = 130°.

The center rear bumper radar sensor (long range radar) recognizes objects (vehicles to the rear) up to s = 80 m (mid-range area) for a maximum detection angle of ∠ = 18°.

Body

The rear left bumper radar sensor, the rear right bumper radar sensor, the intelligent rear left bumper radar sensor and the intelligent rear right bumper radar sensor:

The radar sensors are ultra wideband radar sensors with the following properties:

IMPORTANT The coding (differentiation) of the individual radar sensors takes place by means of corresponding assignment with circuit 31 to pin 5 or pin 6.

The high band width of the radar sensors allows a very precise position statement to be made and optimizes separation of objects lying close to each other.

Center rear bumper radar sensor:

The center rear bumper radar sensor is an ultra-wideband-radar sensor with the following properties:

Function

The intelligent right rear bumper radar sensor and the intelligent left rear bumper radar sensor work according to the master-slave-principle. The master or slave function can be determined via the connector coding. The master function is defined for the right rear bumper intelligent radar sensor. In other words, the intelligent left rear bumper radar sensor sends its information via chassis CAN 1 to the intelligent right rear bumper radar sensor which then evaluates the corresponding information from both intelligent rear bumper radar sensors and sends corresponding requests or data via chassis CAN 1 to the corresponding control units.

The left front bumper radar sensor, right front bumper radar sensor, rear left bumper radar sensor, rear right bumper radar sensor and center rear bumper radar sensor are actuated and evaluated by the radar sensors control unit (N62/1). The signals of the radar sensors are transmitted to the radar sensors control unit via the following CAN connections:

Radar CAN 1

The radar sensors control units communicates with the following radar sensors via radar CAN 1:

Radar CAN 2

The radar sensors control units communicates with the following radar sensors via radar CAN 2:
