Reversing camera (RFK), function - GF54.65-P-0005FLJ
MODEL 212.0/2 up to 28.2.13 with CODE (218) Backup camera with CODE (498) Japan version
Function requirements, general
- Circuit 15 ON
- Trunk lid (model 212.0) or liftgate (model 212.2) closed
- Reversing camera function activated through COMAND control unit (A40/3)
- Drive position "R" engaged
The electronic ignition lock control unit transmits the circuit status of circuit 15 N73 via the interior CAN (CAN B) to the reversing camera control unit (N66/2).
The trunk lid rotary tumbler switch (M14/7s1) in the trunk lid central locking motor (M14/7) (model 212.0) records the status of the trunk lid.
The liftgate rotary tumbler switch (M14/7s1) in the liftgate central locking motor (M14/7) (model 212.2) records the status of the liftgate.
The status of the trunk lid rotary tumbler switch or of the liftgate rotary tumbler switch is read in by the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) and sent over the interior CAN.
If the trunk lid or liftgate is not closed, the picture on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8) is overlaid with a warning message.
Reversing camera, general
The reversing camera function enables the driver to select between the following parking modes:
- Right angle parking (reverse parking)
- Lengthwise parking (parallel parking)
During initial startup, when working on the reversing camera (B84/3) or when working on the trunk lid or the liftgate the reversing camera has to be calibrated again using the diagnosis tester.
The corresponding selection takes place at the operating level of the COMAND controller unit. The last selected mode of parking is activated by engaging gear range "R".
In addition, voice assistance can be activated when parallel parking.
The operating instructions for this are described in seperate service information.
Reversing camera function sequence
The reversing camera function is activated by engaging gear range "R".
Gear range "R" is engaged through the fully integrated transmission control unit (Y3/8n4). The fully integrated transmission control unit then sends the "gear range R engaged" status over the drive train CAN (CAN C), CDI control unit (N3/9) (for diesel engine) or ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) (for gasoline engine) and chassis CAN (CAN E) to the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1).
Located in the front SAM control unit are two microprocessors, one for control of basic functions e.g. the exterior lights, and the second for control of the central gateway functions. Both processors communicate with each other internally via interior CAN. Using all incoming information, the microprocessor which controls the central gateway functions generates the "reverse gear engaged" signal (irrespective of the transmission variant) and sends this signal to the reversing camera control unit via the interior CAN.
The reversing camera control unit then supplies power to the reversing camera.
The pictures taken by the reversing camera are read and processed as a Composite Video Baseband Signal by the reversing camera control unit.
The reversing camera control unit makes calculations based on the steering angle and the stored vehicle guideline parameters, which are shown on the pictures taken.
The rotation angle is recorded by the steering angle sensor (N49).
The steering column tube module control unit (N80) reads in the signals from the steering angle sensor and sends them to the reversing camera control unit via the chassis CAN, front SAM control unit and interior CAN.
The reversing camera control unit transmits the processed pictures as a Composite Video Baseband Signal to the COMAND controller unit. The COMAND controller unit then activates the Audio/COMAND display over the telematics CAN (CAN A).
The pictures processed by the reversing camera control unit are then sent directly via the low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line to the Audio/COMAND display and output there.
