Illustrated on model 218.3
Location
The radio with auto pilot system is integrated at the front center in the center console.
Task
The radio with auto pilot system has the following tasks:
- Operating unit for entertainment and communication systems
- Reading in of signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Actuating of system components
Operating unit for entertainment and communication systems
The radio with auto pilot system provides the user with a structured and uniform interface for the following system components:
- Audio (radio, CD, DVD)
- Communication (telephony)
- Navigation (arrow navigation in multifunction display (A1p13) and 2-D map display in the Audio/COMAND display)
- Voice control system (VCS [SBS]) (with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer)
The graphical display of the user interface is shown on the Audio/COMAND display.
Reading in of signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
- Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN)
- Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)
- Direct line
Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN)
The radio with auto pilot system is a subscriber of the interior CAN (CAN B) and the telematics CAN (CAN A).
Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)
The radio with auto pilot system receives the audio signals from the following control units via MOST:
- Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit (N87/3)
(with code (537) Digital radio)
- Media interface control unit (N125/1)
(with code (518) Media interface)
Direct line
The radio with auto pilot system reads in the following signals:
- AM and FM-1 signals from FM 1, AM, ZV and KEYLESS-GO (A2/18) antenna amplifier
- FM 2 signals from FM 2 and DAB antenna amplifier (A2/19)
- Telephone signals from Bluetooth antenna (A2/91)
- Global Positioning System (GPS) signals from multifunction antenna (A28/11)
- Audio signals for voice control system (VCS) (with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer) and telephony from hands-free system microphone (A67b1)
- Audio signals from AUX jack electrical connector (without code (518) Media interface)
Evaluation of input factors
The integrated microprocessor evaluates the input factors.
Actuation of system components
The system components are actuated via the following connections:
- CAN
- MOST
- Direct line
CAN
The radio with auto pilot system actuates over the telematics CAN the Audio/COMAND display.
MOST
The radio with auto pilot system sends the following signals over MOST:
- Audio signals and control signals:
- Sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3)
(with code (810) Sound system)
- Sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3)
- Control signals:
- Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit
(with code (537) Digital radio)
- Media interface control unit
(with code (518) Media interface)
- Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit
Direct line
The radio with auto pilot system sends the following signals:
- Audio signals to the speaker system
(without code (810) Sound system):
- Control signals for telephony over the Bluetooth antenna
- Video signals over the low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line to the Audio/COMAND display
- Wake-up-signal for MOST to following components:
- Sound system amplifier control unit
(with code (810) Sound system)
- Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit
(with code (537) Digital radio)
- Media interface control unit
(with code (518) Media interface)
- Sound system amplifier control unit
- Switch voltage for mobile phone cradle (A34/15) via the Bluetooth module (A34/7)
(with code (386) Comfort telephony)
- Phantom voltage to following components:
- FM 1, AM, CL and KEYLESS-GO antenna amplifier
- FM 2 and DAB antenna amplifier
- Multifunction antenna
Design
Variants
The radio with auto pilot system is available in the following variants:
- Audio 50 radio with single DVD drive
(with code (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio)
- Audio 50 radio with DVD changer
(with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer)
Diagnosis
The radio with auto pilot system acts as the diagnosis interface (gateway) for all MOST subscribers.
The diagnostic communication takes place between the radio with the auto pilot system and the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) via the interior CAN. The diagnostic communication between the front SAM control unit and the diagnostic connector (X11/4) connected to the diagnosis tester is performed via diagnostic CAN (CAN D).
