Remove/install steering column module - AR54.25-P-2802EW

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Perform initial startup of steering column tube module (1) Only when replacing steering column tube module (1).  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory   AD00.00-P-2000-04A
2 Remove steering wheel   AR46.10-P-0100EW
3 Pry off cover for jacket tube (5) from steering column tube module (1) MODEL 212, 218
IMPORTANT Pry the frame of the steering column tube covering (5) at the latches (arrow) using long wedge off the steering column tube module (1).

4 Remove steering column tube module (1) from steering column tube NOTES Do not operate the red safety catches in the steering column tube module (1).
Otherwise irreparable damage will be caused to the fanfare horns and airbag clock spring contact.
IMPORTANT The steering column tube module (1) contains the fanfare horns and airbag clock spring contact, the steering angle sensor, the steering column tube module control unit and the switch unit. It is one component and can only be removed or replaced complete.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT When the steering column tube module (1) is in the correct installation position, the assembly indicator (3) is retracted. When installing a new steering column tube module (1) the transportation lock (2) must be broken off once mounted.
 
5 Unclip cable duct with electrical line from frame of steering column tube covering (5) MODEL 212, 218  
6 Disconnect electrical connection on steering column tube module (1)   AR54.25-P-2802-02CW
    IMPORTANT The locking clip for the electrical connector is destroyed here and it has to be replaced.  
7 Install in the reverse order    
8 Perform initialization of DTR control unit MODEL 166, 172, 218
with CODE 233 (DISTRONIC PLUS)
MODEL 212
with CODE 233 (DISTRONIC PLUS) up to model year 2013
 
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory   AD00.00-P-2000-04A
    IMPORTANT The DTR control unit is only initialized after the steering column tube module (1) has been replaced.
