Reversing camera component description - GF54.65-P-5040FQA
MODEL 218.9 up to model year 2015 with CODE 218 (Rear view camera)
Location
The reversing camera is above the license plate in the handle strip of the liftgate.
Task
The backup camera does the following:
- Records surrounding area to the rear of the vehicle
- Reading in of signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Actuation of components
- Output of signals
Records surrounding area to the rear of the vehicle
The reversing camera is an optical parking and maneuvering aid. Its tasks include the capturing of pictures of the area to the rear of the vehicle, the generation of dynamic guide lines and the sending of the video picture to the COMAND controller unit (A40/3). The pictures captured by the reversing camera are processed and electronically corrected accordingly by the integrated control unit before being displayed in the audio/COMAND display (A40/8).
The reversing camera is automatically calibrated with the aid of the integrated control unit.
Reading in of signals
The input factors are read in via the following connection:
- Front end CAN (CAN G) (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 2 (CAN E2) (as of 01.03.2013)
Front end CAN (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 2 (as of 01.03.2013)
The reversing camera reads in the following information via the front end CAN (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 2 (as of 01.03.2013):
- Circuit 15 status as sent by the electronic ignition lock control unit (N73)
- Engaged gear range, sent by fully integrated transmission control unit (Y3/8n4)
- Wheel speed and wheel rotation direction, sent by Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4) (without code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS or without engine 157) or Premium Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/7) (with code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS or with engine 157)
- Data from steering angle sensor (N49), sent by steering column tube module control unit (N80)
- Status of trunk lid/liftgate rotary tumbler switch (M14/7s1), sent by rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2)
- Camera picture signal, sent by COMAND controller unit
Further information about the respective signal paths of the reversing camera is given under the corresponding functions and in the block diagrams and function schematics.
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.
Actuation of components
Components are actuated with the following connection:
- Direct line
Direct line
The reversing camera sends the picture data via an analog video interface to the COMAND controller unit.
Output of signals
The signals are output over the following connection:
- Front end CAN (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 2 (as of 01.03.2013)
Front end CAN (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 2 (as of 01.03.2013)
The reversing camera sends a switch-on request to the COMAND controller unit via the front end CAN (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 2 (as of 01.03.2013).
Body
The reversing camera is a color picture camera with a wide-angle lens (angle of vision > 130°) and integrated control unit.
