Location 

The radio is integrated at the front in the center of the center console.

Task 

The radio has the following tasks:

• Operating unit for entertainment and communication systems

Operating unit for entertainment and communication systems 

The radio provides the user with a structured and uniform user interface for the entertainment and communication systems in the vehicle. The graphical display of the user interface is shown on the Audio/COMAND display.

Reading in of signals 

The input factors are read in via the following connections:

• Direct line 
• Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) (with CODE 510 (Audio 20 with CD changer)) 
• CAN 

Direct line 

The radio is equipped with the following direct connections:

• FM 1, AM, CL [ZV] and KEYLESS-GO antenna amplifier (A2/18) (model 218.3) or rear window antenna amplifier 1 (A2/71) (model 218.9)
• FM 2 and DAB antenna amplifier (A2/19) (model 218.3) or FM 2, DAB and TV antenna amplifier (A2/19) (model 218.9), in vehicles with CODE 508 (Navigation box preinstallation) or with CODE 509 (Navigation box) via the FM/TMC antenna splitter (A2/98)

CAN 

The radio is a subscriber of the interior CAN (CAN B) and the telematics CAN (CAN A).

Evaluation of input factors 

The integrated microprocessor evaluates the input factors.

Actuating of system components 

The system components are actuated via the following connections:

• MOST (with CODE 510 (Audio 20 with CD changer))

Direct line 

The following direct output signals are possible:

• Audio output (speakers) (except CODE 810 (Sound system) or CODE 811 (Advanced Sound System))
• Wake-up-signal for MOST to following components:
  • Sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) (with CODE 810 (Sound system))
  • Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit (with CODE 537 (Digital radio), up to 31.8.14)
  • Media interface control unit (with CODE 518 (Media Interface), up to 31.8.14)
  • Bluetooth antenna
  • Microphone output to cradle for navigation module (with CODE 508 (Navigation box preinstallation) or CODE 509 (Navigation box))

The radio provides the following components with electrical voltage:

• Switching voltage for mobile phone cradle (A34/15) via Bluetooth module (A34/7) (up to 28.2.13) or mobile phone contact plate (X237/1) (as of 1.3.13) (with CODE 386 (Comfort telephony))
• Power supply for connected Universal Serial Bus (USB) mass storage devices to USB electrical connector (as of 1.6.12)

CAN 

The radio actuates the Audio/COMAND display via the telematics CAN.

Diagnosis 

The radio acts as a diagnosis gateway for all MOST subscribers. Diagnostic communication takes place between the radio and the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) via the interior CAN. Diagnostic communication between the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module and the diagnostic connector (X11/4) connected to the diagnosis unit takes place via the diagnostic CAN (CAN D).
