REMOVING Remove     
1.1 Remove lower engine compartment paneling at rear Vehicles with engine compartment paneling  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   MODEL 117, 156, 176 with ENGINE 133, 270 MODEL 246 with ENGINE 270 AR61.20-P-1105NKB
1.2 Remove bottom section of soundproofing Vehicles with bottom section of soundproofing  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   MODEL 117, 176, 246 with ENGINE 607, 651 MODEL 156 with ENGINE 607 AR94.30-P-5300NKB
INSPECT Check     
2 Check visible systems, powertrain components, lines, hoses on the underfloor for damage, correct routing, leaks, correct mounting and corrosion IMPORTANT Brake system,
Spring elements,
Shock absorber,
Suspension lines and sensors, Steering,
Front axle,
Engine and mounted major assemblies,
Cooling system,
Heater and A/C system, Transmission,
Exhaust system,
Exhaust aftertreatment, Heat shields,
Rear axle,
Rear axle shafts with boots, Rear axle differential,
Fuel system.
If there are problems: ↓
Rectify problem subject to separate repair order.
 
3 Check visible systems, components, lines and hoses on the underfloor for damage, correct routing, leaks, correct mounting and corrosion Depends on equipment
IMPORTANT Front axle shafts with boots (4MATIC), Front axle transmission (4MATIC), Stationary heater (equipment specific) Transfer case (4MATIC).
If there are problems: ↓
Rectify problem subject to separate repair order.
 
4 Check underfloor and visible components on underfloor for damage, routing, mounting and corrosion IMPORTANT Wheel well trim
Underfloor paneling,
Underfloor.
If there are problems: ↓
Rectify problem subject to separate repair order.
 
5 Check visible body panels for corrosion IMPORTANT Wheel well body panels
Front axle carrier,
Rear axle carrier,
Chassis steering arms,
Underfloor body panels,
Body reinforcements.
If corrosion is detected: ↓
proceed in accordance with the country-specific regulations for mobility and body shell complaints.
 
6 Check vehicle underside for evidence of driving over obstacles or damage caused by contact with the vehicle underside If driving over obstacles or damage caused by contact with the vehicle underside is suspected: ↓
Check steering for mechanical damages. If the steering shows signs of mechanical damage: ↓
Subject to separate repair order, replace steering for safety reasons.
 
INSTALLING Install     
7.1 Install lower engine compartment paneling at rear Vehicles with engine compartment paneling  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   MODEL 117, 156, 176 with ENGINE 133, 270

7.2 Install rear bottom section of soundproofing Vehicles with bottom section of soundproofing  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   MODEL 117, 176, 246 with ENGINE 607, 651
MODEL 156 with ENGINE 607
