Function requirements for video operation in general

A video DVD has been inserted into the DVD/CD magazine of the head unit.

Video mode, general

The DVD drive of the head unit supports the playback of video DVDs. The video image is displayed on the Audio/COMAND display depending on request and availability.

The video function can be operated using the:

Audio/COMAND control panel
Left multifunction steering wheel button group and right multifunction steering wheel button group
Voice control system (VCS [SBS])
Touchpad (as of 01.06.2015 with code 448 (Touchpad), with code 494 (USA version) or with code 498 (Japan version))

Function sequence for video mode

The Audio/COMAND control panel transmits the control signals via telematics CAN to the head unit. The touchpad (as of 01.06.2015 with code 448 (Touchpad), with code 494 (USA version) or with code 498 (Japan version)) sends the control signals via the telematics CAN to the head unit.

The control signals of the left multifunction steering wheel button group and the right multifunction steering wheel button group are forwarded as follows:

Head unit

The voice commands for the voice control system are converted into electric signals by the hands-free system microphone and forwarded to the head unit.

The picture signals are transmitted in the head unit to the controller unit via a separate video line by the DVD drive. The head unit transmits the picture signals via a LVDS line to the Audio/COMAND display.

Audio is output depending on the equipment variant:

On vehicles with code 810 (Sound system), the audio signals are sent via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier control unit, where they are amplified and output via the speaker system using direct lines.
On vehicles except code 810 (Sound system), the head unit outputs the audio signals via the speaker system using direct lines.
