DANGER Risk of death  when touching components on vehicles with high-voltage on-board electrical system Do not touch components and open lines of the high-voltage on-board electrical system. Persons who wear electronic implants (e.g. cardiac pacemakers), must not  carry out any work on high-voltage on-board electrical systems. AS54.00-Z-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of explosion  from explosive gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury  through burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1.1 Detach trunk lining at left and right far enough to gain access to the bolts (1) MODEL 205.0/1
with CODE ME06 (Hybrid drive 50-KW variant (incl. plugin))
without CODE ME04 (Mild hybrid drive)

1.2 Detach load compartment lining at left and right side in rear area until the bolts (1) are accessible MODEL 205.2
with CODE ME06 (Hybrid drive 50-KW variant (incl. plugin))

2 Disconnect ground line for on-board electrical system battery (G1)   AR54.10-P-0003LW 
3 Disconnect electrical connector (2)    
4 Unscrew nuts (3)    
5 Detach coolant pump (4) with connected electrical lines and coolant hoses and place to one side    
6 Remove screw (5) TORQUE SPECIFICATION

7 Remove bolts (1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION

8 Remove crash bracket (6)    
9 Release nuts (7) TORQUE SPECIFICATION

10 Remove screws/bolts (8) TORQUE SPECIFICATION

11 Pull crash strut (9) in rear area upwards and fix in place using assembly wedge (10), as shown SPECIAL TOOL Mounting wedge Fig 3
12 Remove bolt (11) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, battery mounting rail to battery frame *BA54.10-P-1001-01A 
13 Remove mounting rail (12)    
14 Unclip positive line (13) from body    
15 Detach vent hose (14) from on-board electrical system battery (G1) INSTALLATION NOTES
Check bleed hose (14) is correctly seated.
Otherwise, escaping battery vapors may damage the vehicle.
 
16 Lift on-board electrical system battery (G1) in area of previously-removed mounting rail (12), turn in direction of arrow and pull out under crash strut (9) NOTES
Make sure that the electrical line (15) and its connection are not damaged when turning the on-board electrical system battery (G1). Otherwise the high voltage on-board electrical system may malfunction and be damaged.
 
17 Unclip positive terminal cover (16)    
18 Disconnect positive line (12) from on-board electrical system battery (G1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, electrical line to negative terminal/positive terminal for on-board electrical system battery *BA54.10-P-1004-01A 
19 Remove on-board electrical system battery (G1) from vehicle INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Check bleed hose (17) is correctly seated.  
20 Install in the reverse order    
21 Confirm battery change in front SAM control unit in "Actuations" menu item When replacing the on-board electrical system battery (G1).
