Engine sound control unit, component description - GF54.21-P-0019RF
Model 205 with engine 276
Model 253 with engine 276
Shown on model 205
Location
The engine sound control unit is located behind the paneling in the front passenger footwell.
Tasks
The engine sound control unit simulates engine noise in the vehicle interior through the speaker system, to give the impression of a larger-displacement engine.
The engine sound control unit receives the following signals:
- Control signals (e.g. engine speed, engine load and vehicle speed) via engine CAN (CAN C) from ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10)
- Analog signals via direct line from head unit (A26/17) (except code 810 (Sound system))
The engine sound control unit transmits the following signals in vehicles except code 810 (Sound system):
- Synthesized sound signals over direct lines to:
- Left footwell woofer (right-hand drive vehicles) (H4/42)
- Right footwell woofer (left-hand drive vehicles) (H4/43)
- Left front door midrange speaker (H4/72)
- Right front door midrange speaker (H4/73)
- Left rear door/side paneling midrange speaker (H4/80)
- Right rear door/side paneling midrange speaker (H4/81)
The engine sound control unit transmits the following signals in vehicles with code 810 (Sound system):
- Synthesized sound signals over 4 symmetric lines to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3)
The synthesized sound signals are distributed to the individual speakers by the software of the sound system amplifier control unit.
