DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A

REMOVING Remove     
1 Print out the "Trailer hitch, certificate" document For countries that do not belong to the EU.  
REFER TO FORMS Trailer coupling certificate   OF31.10-P-1000-01S
    IMPORTANT Print out the document "Trailer hitch, certificate" and submit for the installation acceptance.
IMPORTANT For do-it-yourself installation, print out the detailed installation instructions and hand over to the customer.
 
2 Disconnect battery ground line    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR54.10-P-0003LW
3 Remove paneling on left in trunk    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR IMPORTANT The left cover in the trunk is a discontinued part and it is replaced by the left cover in the trunk included in the scope of supply.   AR68.30-P-4800LW
4 Remove right paneling in trunk    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR68.30-P-4800LW
5 Remove rear bumper    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR88.20-P-2200LW
6 Remove heat shield above rear muffler IMPORTANT Left on a single-pipe exhaust system. Left and right on a twin-pipe exhaust system.  
7 Unfasten rubber retainer on rear muffler IMPORTANT Left on a single-pipe exhaust system. Left and right on a twin-pipe exhaust system.  
8 Remove cross member (6) IMPORTANT The cross member (6) is no longer required.  
9 Remove rear fender liner in right front fender Model 205.0## (except 205.086/087) 2# with engine 274 or model 205.0 with code ME06 (Hybrid drive 50 kW variant (including plug-in))  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR88.10-P-1300LW
    IMPORTANT The rear fender liner is no longer required and is replaced by a fender liner that matches the equipment variant "Code 550 (Trailer hitch)".  
10 Detach fuse and relay module in rear and check for usability    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR54.15-P-0001LW
    Check the EPC to determine whether the corresponding vehicle equipment's installed rear fuse and relay module can be used for retrofitting the trailer hitch (AHV).
↓
If necessary, remove the rear fuse and relay module and replace with one compatible with the trailer hitch.
 
11 Remove electric fan Model 205.0  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   Model 205.0 with engine 274.9, 276.8, 651.9
IMPORTANT The electric fan is no longer required.

TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, longitudinal member reinforcement for trailer hitch to body *BA31.11-P-1003-01K 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, longitudinal member reinforcement for trailer hitch to body *BA31.11-P-1002-01K 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, trailer hitch to longitudinal member reinforcement *BA31.11-P-1001-01K 
13 Retrofit trailer hitch wiring harness   AN31.19-P-8100-05LW
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Right rear wheel well ground point *BA00.19-P-1005-01E

16 Attach information label (42) to trunk lid    
17 Install electric fan Model 205.0

18 Install remaining parts    
  Update Vehicle Documentation (VeDoc)     
19 Enter special equipment into the on-line vehicle data card IMPORTANT Code 550 (Trailer hitch)  
20 Attach note "Trailer hitch retrofitted as per AN31.10-P-8082LW " under field organization texts to design group 31, design group 50, design group 68 and design group 88    
21 Attach note "Trailer hitch retrofitted as per AN31.10-P-8082LW " under field organization texts for design group 20. If the electric fan was replaced.  
22 Attach note "Trailer hitch retrofitted as per AN31.10-P-8082LW " under field organization texts for design group 54. If the rear fuse and relay module was replaced.  
23 Connect diagnostic system and select vehicle using vehicle identification number (VIN)

24 Carry out variant coding using software calibration number (SCN) IMPORTANT "SAM control unit"
"Instrument cluster"
"Central gateway in electronic ignition lock control unit"
 
25 Disconnect diagnostic system

INSPECT Check     
26 Perform function test of light signals at trailer hitch socket   AN31.19-P-8100-06LW
