Work on glass panes 

• The use of approved materials and tools is absolutely necessary for proper repair because the material characteristics of the recommended products influence the work results and labor times.
• When working on the glued in vehicle windows, wear sturdy gloves and eye protection to prevent injuries from cutting and splinters.
• Adhesive bonds are a part of the unibody construction. Always exercise particular care when performing work on bonded windows.
• Following any fire damage, check the bondings and replace if required, as strong heat can damage the adhesive.

Repair of glass panes (stone chippings) 

The repair of windshields is permissible under the following conditions:

• Only damage on the outside window surface may be repaired.
• Damage to the inside of the windshield or to the plastic laminate is not permitted.
• Ensure that moisture has not penetrated into the damaged point (seal damaged point immediately after damage with transparent adhesive fabric tape and repair it as soon as possible).
• The diameter of the chip should not exceeded 5 mm.
• Any radial cracks extending from the point of impact should not exceed 50 mm. They must not end at the adhesive bead and never reach to the outer edge of the window.
• The repair method can only be used when the damaged area is outside the driver's field of vision.
• The repair resin must be resistant to ultraviolet radiation.
• The repair point must be clean, free of grease and dry.

Replacement of glass panes 

• Use fabric adhesive tape in the repair area in order to protect the paint. - If the paint gets damaged during replacement of the glass panes, clean damaged points and treat with anticorrosion agents. The repair point must then be coated with paint (see Paint repair guidelines). Following cleaning and priming (bonding agent), do not touch the bonding surfaces.
• Before the adhesive is applied to painted sheet metal, the gluing point must be cleaned and treated with a primer (bonding agent). Any remaining glue residues must not be removed completely, but rather a thickness of 1 to 2 mm left standing. Adhesive residue may only be cut to the required height just before installation.
• Always observe the curing time for the adhesive to ensure that the adhesive bead achieves the full strength. Before closing the doors, open the windows slightly so that air pressure does not push the glass up off of the adhesive bead.
• Following replacement of bonded windows, windshields, panoramic roofs and panoramic sliding roofs, the vehicle should not be moved until the curing time for the adhesive has expired (observe the specifications from the adhesive manufacturer).
