Remove/install rear suspension valve body - AR32.50-P-0002RK

MODEL 231 with CODE 487 (Active Body Control (ABC)) 

Shown on left side of vehicle

DANGER Risk of injury  to skin or eyes from hydraulic fluid spraying out under pressure. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing hydraulic fluid. Depressurize hydraulic system completely before starting any work on it. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. AS00.00-Z-0013-01A
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Detach left rear wheel    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels, rotate if necessary   AP40.10-P-4050EW
2 Remove fender liner in the rear left fender   AR88.10-P-1400RK
3 Remove insulating bag (7)    
4.1 Relieve pressure in rear axle ABC system using the bleed screws MODEL 231.### ## up to 021273
with CODE 487 (Active Body Control (ABC))
IMPORTANT Catch hydraulic fluid in a suitable container.

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bleed screw on soldered fitting in hydraulic line *BA32.50-P-1001-02B 
4.2 Release pressure in ABC system using Star Diagnosis MODEL 231.### ## as of 021274
with CODE 487 (Active Body Control (ABC))

REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-04A
5 Remove strut (1)    
6 Release underfloor paneling in rear area Remove/install underbody paneling AR61.30-P-1001RK
7 Remove bracket (3)    
8 Remove screws/bolts (6) and remove hydraulic lines (4) NOTES Before opening the hydraulic system, thoroughly clean the area surrounding the separation point.
Even the smallest dirt particles, introduced into the hydraulic components, can lead to malfunctions and a total failure of the hydraulic system.
NOTES Ensure that no dirt enters the open hydraulic lines (4).
This can result in failure of the ABC system.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Check sealing rings for damage and replace if necessary. Check support rings for damage and replace the complete hydraulic line (4) if necessary. Note the installation position of the hydraulic lines (4).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, line to rear axle valve unit
*BA32.50-P-1007-01C 
9 Seal hydraulic lines (4) and openings on rear axle ABC valve unit (Y36/2) using stop plugs SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Figure
10 Separate hydraulic lines (4) using detaching tool on quick-release couplings (2) NOTES Ensure that no dirt enters the open quick- release couplings (2).
This can result in failure of the ABC system.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Make sure that the quick- release couplings (2) engage completely. Install lines free of tension.

11 Unscrew nut (9) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, bracket for valve unit on rear axle to rubber-bonded metal buffer *BA32.50-P-1012-01C 
12 Loosen bolt (5) Bolt, bracket to valve unit on rear axle *BA32.50-P-1010-01C 
13 Disconnect electrical connector (8)    
14 Pull out rear axle ABC valve unit (Y36/2) slightly and disconnect electrical connections (10) NOTES Before detaching the electrical connections (8, 10), check whether the color coding on the rear axle ABC valve unit (Y36/2) and the electrical connections (8, 10) are present.
Otherwise, if incorrectly mounted, the rear axle ABC valve unit (Y36/2) may be destroyed or malfunction. Warning: Risk of accident! 
IMPORTANT Only pull out the rear axle ABC valve unit (Y36/2) back until the electrical connections (10) are accessible. Disconnect cable tie, if any.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT The electrical plugs and connections on the rear axle ABC valve unit (Y36/2) are color-coded relative to each other, and they must not be mixed up.
 
15 Remove rear axle ABC valve unit (Y36/2) to the rear    
16 Detach hydraulic lines (4) from rear axle ABC valve unit (Y36/2) When replacing rear axle ABC valve unit (Y36/2)
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Check sealing rings for damage and replace if necessary. Check support rings for damage and replace the complete hydraulic line (4) if necessary.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, line to rear axle valve unit
*BA32.50-P-1007-01C 
17 Install in the reverse order    
18 Replace stop plugs in removed rear axle ABC valve unit (Y36/2) with plugs When replacing rear axle ABC valve unit (Y36/2)
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Caps are supplied with new part.
 
19 Fill and bleed ABC system   AR32.50-P-0021SX
