Check and correct the adjustment of the headlamps - AP82.10-P-8260M

MODIFICATION NOTES

15.1.08 Set switch for headlamp range adjustment to 0 position, added Step 8.1  
INSPECT Check     
DANGER Risk of death  caused by high voltage levels present at xenon headlamps.
Risk of explosion/fire hazard  due to highly flammable substances in the area of damaged xenon bulbs
Risk of injury  due to UV light, hot components on xenon headlamps and glass splinters when xenon bulbs burst
Risk of poisoning  caused by inhalation of mercury vapors and by toxic salts and mercury compounds being ingested or coming into contact with skin
Do not come into contact with parts that are under high voltage. Persons with active electronic implants  (e.g. heart pacemakers) must never work on xenon headlamps. Switch off entire lighting system. Wear insulated safety shoes, safety glasses and protective gloves. Remove highly inflammable materials from the hazard area. Ensure sufficient ventilation in the working area. AS82.10-Z-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

1 Check tire inflation pressure, correct if necessary    
2 Park vehicle on horizontal, level surface IMPORTANT Vehicle must be in curb condition (curb weight, fuel tank full or corresponding additional weight).  
3 Have person sit on driver seat or place load of 75 kg on seat Except vehicles with code 494 USA version or vehicles with code 489 AIRmatic (air suspension with level adjustment and adaptive dampening system (ADS))  
4 Allow engine to run for approx. 30 s at mid-range speed and press level control switch IMPORTANT Afterwards, the height of the vehicle has to be at a normal level. Move vehicle back and forth to correctly adjust axles.  
5 Prepare headlamp aimer IMPORTANT Align headlamp aimer approx. 50 cm in front of the headlamps parallel with the vehicle at the height of light source. Adjust specified headlamp inclination on scale of headlamp aimer.

6 Start the engine and switch on low beam    
7.1 Check function of headlamp range adjustment by adjusting headlamp range adjustment switch Except vehicles with code 614 Bi-xenon headlamp unit or vehicles with code 494 USA version
IMPORTANT Both light beams of the headlamps must be evenly adjusted.
 
7.2 Check function of headlamp range adjustment through placement of additional weights in the luggage compartment Vehicles with code 614 Bi-xenon headlamp unit or vehicles with code 494 USA version
IMPORTANT The height of the light-dark boundary shall not change when loading or unloading the weights.
 
8.1 Move the switch for headlamp range adjustment at the switch for exterior lights (S1) into position 0 Except vehicles with code 614 Bi-xenon headlamp unit or vehicles with code 494 USA version  
8.2 Remove additional weights from the luggage compartment Vehicles with code 614 Bi-xenon headlamp unit or vehicles with code 494 USA version  
9 Check low beam, if required correct setting IMPORTANT Vehicles with code 614 Bi-xenon headlamp unit or vehicles with code 494 USA version, correct adjustment subject to separate repair order. AP82.10-P-8260-01A
10 Check setting of high beam IMPORTANT Vehicles with code 614 Bi-xenon headlamp unit or vehicles with code 494 USA version, correct adjustment subject to separate repair order. AP82.10-P-8260-02A
11 Check fog lamp, if required correct setting   AP82.10-P-8260-04A
12 Switch off light and turn off engine
