After an accident the airbag and emergency tensioning retractor restraint system is to be checked for external damage, defects and actuation. Defective or damaged components must be immediately replaced. Repair of these components is not permitted.
The emergency tensioning retractor with airbag control unit must be replaced:
- If the housing has been deformed or damaged in any way,
- If the console has been deformed in any way, even if the control unit does not appear to have suffered any damage,
- If there is an electrical defect
and
- following an airbag deployment (flash code 10).
The airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units must be replaced:
- After they have been deployed,
- If there is any visual damage, even if no deployment has occurred
and
- If there is an electrical defect.
Following deployment of the driver airbag the steering wheel must always be replaced and following deployment of the front passenger airbag the instrument panel must always be replaced.
