DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A

INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace retaining clamp.		  
13.2 Detach electrical line from intelligent servo module for DIRECT SELECT TRANSMISSION 722.96 in MODEL 212, 218  
14 Disconnect electrical line from transmission oil pump, unclip from transmission (5) and place outside of the working area If an auxiliary oil pump is installed.  
15.1 Detach front axle transmission drive shaft and fasten to transmission (5) using tensioning strap TRANSMISSION 722.96 in MODEL 204.0/2/3

16 Remove oil drain screw from transmission oil pan and drain automatic transmission fluid When replacing the transmission (5) or the torque converter (9).
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace seal.
If the transmission oil is burnt or interspersed with abrasion, the oil cooler lines and oil cooler must be flushed out.

Flush out automatic transmission and torque converter

17 Detach bracket of wiring harness on transmission (5) TRANSMISSION 722.96 in MODEL 204.0/9, 212 with ENGINE 272  
18 Detach oil cooling lines from transmission (5), transfer case and engine oil pan and place to one side   AR27.55-P-0600CWX 
19 Detach torque converter (9) from driven plate (7) and pry driven plate (7) off evenly using a long wedge   AR27.20-P-0100-01A
NOTES Do not use an impact wrench/driver or a compressed-air tool.
Otherwise the threaded unions (7a) of the driven plate (7) may be damaged.

21 Remove screws/bolts (8) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Secure bracket of electric feed lines at transmission (5).  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, automatic transmission to engine *BA27.40-P-1008-01A 
22 Remove transmission (5) from below IMPORTANT Secure torque converter (9) to prevent it from falling out.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Align the holes of the torque converter (9) with the threaded unions (7a) in the driven plate (7).		  
23 Remove torque converter (9) If necessary.

26 Check rear engine mount for wear and damage If necessary replace rear engine mount.

27 Install in the reverse order    
28 Fill transmission (5) with transmission oil, check transmission oil level and correct if necessary When replacing the transmission (5) or if transmission oil is drained off.

29 Read out fault memory using the diagnostic system and clear if necessary    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS AD00.00-P-2000-04A
30 Perform transmission adaptation using diagnostic system After replacement or repair of transmission (5)  
31 Reset data on service life of torque converter lockup clutch using diagnostic system After replacing torque converter (9)  
DANGER Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
30 Test run engine and check transfer case and transmission (5) for leaks and function
