Remove/install rear axle shaft - AR35.30-P-0620CW

NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
NOTES Notes on repair work on suspension components   AH00.00-P-0100-01A
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Secure vehicle on vehicle lift   AR00.60-P-0100CW
2 Detach rear complete wheel    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE AP40.10-P-4050CW
3 Detach collar nut (12) from rear axle shaft (37)   AR35.30-P-0115-01TX
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Install new collar nut (12).  
Collar nut, rear axle shaft to rear axle shaft flange *BA35.30-P-1001-01J 
4 Raise wheel carrier (7) using telescopic lifter and transmission platform until rear axle shaft (37) is almost horizontal INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Tighten bolted connections of torque strut, camber strut and thrust arm (5, 2, 3) as well as the tie rod (4) when in ready-to-drive condition.  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking nut, camber strut to wheel carrier *BA35.20-P-1002-02I 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking nut, strut rod to wheel carrier *BA35.20-P-1002-03I 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking nut, tie rod to wheel carrier *BA35.20-P-1001-04I 
IMPORTANT Self-locking nut, thrust arm to wheel carrier *BA35.20-P-1002-05G 
5 Detach camber strut (2), torque strut (5), tie rod (4) and thrust arm (3) from wheel carrier (7) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Screw on the threaded connections loosely.  
6 Unclip electrical line of left rear axle rpm sensor (L6/3) or electrical line of right rear axle rpm sensor (L6/4) from bracket (6) on hub/wheel carrier (7) and bracket on wheel arch    
7 Unclip electrical line of brake wear sensor from bracket (6) on wheel carrier (7) and bracket on wheel arch When removing the rear axle shaft (37) on vehicles with brake wear sensor  
8 Unclip electrical line of rear damping valve unit from bracket (6) on wheel carrier (7) and bracket on wheel arch MODEL 204, 207
with CODE 483 (ADVANCED AGILITY package)		  
9 Lower wheel carrier (7) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Raise wheel carrier (7) using telescopic lifter and transmission platform until rear axle shaft (37) is almost horizontal.  
10 Fold down wheel carrier (7) and pull rear axle shaft (37) out of rear axle shaft flange SPECIAL TOOL Extraction and insertion tool Figure

If the rear axle shaft (37) is firmly seated in rear axle shaft flange:
↓
Press rear axle shaft (37) out of rear axle shaft flange.

11 Pry rear axle shaft (37) out of rear axle differential (50) IMPORTANT Do not  position an assembly lever on the protection ring (37a). Support the assembly lever on the rear axle differential (50) using a socket wrench.  
12 Take out rear axle shaft (37) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace locking ring (37o) on inner spline profile.  
INSPECT Check     
13 Check constant velocity joints and axle boots for damage If constant velocity joint is damaged:
↓
Replace rear axle shaft (37).
If axle boot is damaged:
↓
Replace axle boot.

14 Check side radial shaft sealing ring in rear axle differential (50) for damage and leakage If damaged or leaking:
↓
Replace side radial shaft sealing ring.

15 Install in the reverse order    
16 Check oil level in rear axle differential (50) and correct, if necessary MODEL 204.377
