Standing/parking lights actuation, function - GF82.10-P-3060CE

MODEL 204.0/2 as of model year 2009

MODEL 204.3

MODEL 204.9

Function requirements, general

Standing/parking lights, general

The standing lights/parking lights actuation serves the marking of the parked vehicle in darkness.

IMPORTANT On model 204.0/2 as of 1.3.11, model 204.3, model 204.9 as of 1.6.12 with xenon headlamps (with code (615) Bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated curve illumination or code (616) Bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated asymmetric curve illumination or code (621) Intelligent Light System (left-hand traffic) or code (622) Intelligent Light System (right-hand traffic)), the parking, standing and turn signal light functions are output via light-emitting diodes (LED).

To output the left parking, standing and turn signal light functions, the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) actuates the left front standing light and parking light (E1e3) and the left front turn signal light (E1e5) in the left front lamp unit (E1) via the left front actuation module, LED exterior lighting (E1n7).

To output the right parking, standing and turn signal light functions, the front SAM control unit actuates the right front standing light and parking light (E2e3) and the right front turn signal light (E2e5) in the right front lamp unit (E2) via the right front actuation module, LED exterior lighting (E2n7).

The front actuation modules, LED exterior lighting control the supply voltage of the LEDs.

The standing/parking lights actuation is comprised of the following subfunctions:

Standing lamp actuation function sequence

Turning the exterior lights switch (S1) to the standing lights position requests actuation of the standing lights.

The front SAM control unit reads in the status of the exterior lights switch on vehicles up to 31.5.10 via the instrument panel LIN (LIN 1) and on vehicles as of 1.6.10 directly (voltage-coded) and sends the "Standing lights On" request via interior CAN (CAN B) to the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) as well as on vehicles with code (550) Trailer hitch also to the trailer recognition control unit (N28/1).

The front SAM control unit actuates the following components:

The rear SAM control unit actuates the following components:

The trailer recognition control unit actuates the following components via the trailer socket (X58):

The active standing lights actuation is indicated visually to the driver. In vehicles up to 31.5.09 the front SAM control unit actuates the standing light indicator lamp (S1e3) in the exterior lights switch over the instrument panel LIN.

On vehicles as of 1.6.09, the front SAM control unit sends the "Standing lights actuation active" status via interior CAN to the instrument cluster (A1). The instrument cluster then switches on the scale illumination of the instruments and, as of 1.6.12, actuates the standing lights indicator lamp (A1e38).

Additional function requirements for lights on reminder

Function sequence for lights on reminder warning

The logic for requesting the lights on reminder function is stored in the front SAM control unit.

The left front door control unit (N69/1) sends the status of the driver door and the electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) sends the status of circuit 15 via interior CAN to the front SAM control unit.

The front SAM control unit receives this information and from it generates the request for output of the lights on reminder function and transmits this to the instrument cluster via the interior CAN. The instrument cluster receives the request and activates the warning buzzer (A1h1).

The message "Switch off lights" appears in the travel distance display (A1p7) (model 204.0/2/3/9 (except 204.077/277/377) without code (442) Comfort multifunction steering wheel) or in the multifunction display (A1p13) (with code (442) Comfort multifunction steering wheel, model 204.077/277/377) of the instrument cluster.

The standing lights may be on due to the low beams having been manually switched on, due to the auto on/off headlamps or the daytime running lights, or they can be switched on manually via the exterior lights switch. If the standing lights have been activated because of the manually activated low beams, auto on/off headlamps or the daytime running lights, and the driver door is opened at circuit 15C ON, the standing lights are switched off.

If with active rear fog light actuation, circuit 15C is switched off and the driver door is then opened, the instrument cluster actuates the warning buzzer and shows a corresponding message on the travel distance indicator or the multifunction display.

Parking lights actuation function sequence

By turning the exterior lights switch to the left parking lights position or the right parking lights position, the parking lights actuation is requested for the corresponding side of vehicle.

The front SAM control unit reads in the status of the exterior lights switch and transmits the request via the interior CAN to the rear SAM control unit and, if necessary, to the trailer recognition control unit.

Right parking light:

IMPORTANT If on model 204.0/2 up to 28.2.11, model 204.9 the interior CAN is in "bus idle", the parking lights actuation is stored in the rear SAM control unit and the trailer recognition control unit until a deactivation is requested by the front SAM control unit, even when the on-board electrical system voltage then collapses as a consequence and the on-board electrical system battery (G1) is completely discharged. On model 204.0/2/3 as of 1.3.11, model 204.3 the standing, parking lights are switched off when the on-board electrical system management determines that the engine's starting capability is impaired by the discharging of the on-board electrical system battery.
