Location

One front actuation module, LED exterior lighting each is mounted on the underside (model 204.0/2/3) or on the inside (model 204.9) of the left front lamp unit and the right front lamp unit.

Task

The front LED exterior lights actuation modules are responsible for the following tasks:

Provide and monitor operating voltage and operating current of the actuated light-emitting diodes (LED)
Actuation of the LEDs in the corresponding front lamp unit to output the light functions:
- Standing lamp
- Parking light
- Turn signal lamp
- Thermal management (temperature monitoring)

The front LED exterior lights actuation modules actuate the LEDs located in the front lamp unit to implement the individual light functions. The LEDs are each connected in series.

The front actuation modules, LED exterior lighting are powered by the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) (circuit 30L). The individual light functions are output after applying voltage at the respective input channel of the front LED exterior lights actuation module. This occurs through the front SAM control unit.

The front lamp units are equipped with temperature sensors at the LED chains. The front actuation modules, LED exterior lighting evaluate the data of the temperature sensors. If there is danger of the LEDs or the plastic housing of the front lamp units overheating, the front actuation modules, LED exterior lighting reduce the actuating currents and thus lower the heat development.

Identified malfunctions of individual components are stored in a nonvolatile memory. The front actuation modules, LED exterior lighting can be diagnosed via the headlamp control unit (N71/1).
