Location 

The rear door control units are located behind the door lining in the corresponding rear door.

Task 

The rear door control units have the following tasks:

• Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals 
• Evaluation of input factors 
• Controlling functions 
• Actuating components 

Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals 

The input factors are read in via the following connections:

• Direct line 
• Interior CAN (CAN B) 

Direct line 

The signals from the following components are read via a direct line:

• Left rear door control unit:
  • Left rear power window switch (S21/3)
  • Hall sensor for left rear door power window motor (M10/5)
• Right rear door control unit:
  • Right rear power window switch (S21/4)
  • Hall sensor for right rear door power window motor (M10/6)

Interior CAN 

The signals are read in by the corresponding rear door control unit via the interior CAN.

The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).

Evaluation of input factors 

The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.

Controlling functions 

The rear door control units have the following functions:

• Manual and automatic opening and closing of rear side windows
• Automatic closing of rear side windows with PRE-SAFE (with code (299) PRE-SAFE)
• Convenience feature for rear power windows
• Excess force limiter for manual and automatic closing of rear side windows
• Automatic opening of rear side windows after airbag deployment

Component actuation 

Components are actuated via the following lines:

• Direct line 
• Interior CAN 

Direct line 

The following components are actuated with a direct line:

• Left rear door control unit:
  • Left rear door central locking motor (A85/3m1) (as of 1.6.09)}
  • Left rear door additional door lock actuator motor (A85/3m4) (on model 204.0/2 for Great Britain)
  • Left rear door power window motor
  • Left rear power window switch (symbol illumination)
  • In addition with code (954) Avantgarde or code (955) Elegance:
    • Left rear door exit and warning lamp (E17/5)
    • Left rear door handle illumination (E17/13)
• Right rear door control unit:
  • Right rear door central locking motor (A85/4m1) (as of 1.6.09)
  • Right rear door additional door lock actuator motor (A85/4m4) (on model 204.0/2 for Great Britain)
  • Right rear door power window motor
  • Right rear power window switch
  • In addition with code (954) Avantgarde or code (955) Elegance:
    • Right rear door exit and warning lamp (E17/6)
    • Right rear door handle illumination (E17/14)

Interior CAN 

The components are actuated by the corresponding rear door control unit via the interior CAN.
