MODIFICATION NOTES

9.11.11 Check voltage on on-board electrical system with test lamp, added Model 166, operation step 5  
Adjust outside mirror, added Model 166, operation step 8
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of injury  caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or metal spatter due to short circuit. Risk of burn  injuries caused by short circuit. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or absorption of lead over the skin or orifices No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves and clothing and safety glasses with side guards.
Do not place any conductive objects on the battery and avoid any short circuit from battery positive to ground.
Only fill liquid battery electrolyte (diluted sulfuric acid) into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

1 Adjust position of front passenger seat (1) IMPORTANT Move front passenger seat (1) into foremost and uppermost position and set backrest to vertical position.  
2 Switch off all electrical consumers, switch off ignition and remove transmitter key or KEYLESS-GO start-stop button from electronic ignition lock control unit NOTES All electrical consumers must be switched off. Otherwise they may be damaged when the ground line (4) is connected/disconnected.
IMPORTANT KEYLESS-GO start/stop button only with code (889) Keyless-Go present.
 
3 Remove cover (2) SPECIAL TOOL Assembly wedge Fig 2
4 Loosen nut (3) on battery negative pole clamp and disconnect ground line (4) of battery (G1) IMPORTANT Ensure that no jumper start device is connected to vehicle.  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA54.10-P-1012-01C 
5 Using a diode test lamp, check the on-board electrical system for voltage between the positive line of the battery (G1) and the disconnected ground line (4) Model 166 with code (B03) ECO Start Stop function
IMPORTANT If the diode test lamp lights up, the on-board electrical system is still active because of a defect in the electrical system.
In this case the ground line of the additional battery should be disconnected: ↓
 
Remove/install additional battery.
NOTES Cover positive lines. Risk of short  circuit!
IMPORTANT After completing the operation steps to be performed, rectify the defect on the electrical system.

6 Install in the reverse order    
7.1 Perform basic programming Model 164 AR00.19-P-0200GZ
7.2 Reset clock Model 166 with code (510) Audio 20 incl. CD changer or with code (523) MB Audio 20 radio  
8 Adjust outside mirror Model 166 with code (500b) Left/right folding outside mirrors
