  1. Remove covers from front signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) (N10/1), rear signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) (N10/2) and interior fuse box (F34).
  2. Lock engine hood catch using screwdriver.

IMPORTANT Only with code (FZ5) Anti-theft alarm system (EDW).

  3. Lock vehicle.
  4. Remove fuse 9 for overhead control panel control unit (N70) from rear signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) (N10/2).

IMPORTANT This ensures that the in-car temperature sensor fan motor (N70m1) is not supplied with power.

IMPORTANT Observe the Current Information bulletin (Al). First of all check the electric circuits of the components which are listed in the Current Information (Al).

  5. Remove fuse from the component or current path affected.

IMPORTANT Remove the fuse for the ELECTRONIC ALARM SYSTEM only on unlocked vehicles (alarm signal).

  6. Connect measurement cable (6) MPECIAL TOOL and no-load current test adapter (13) MPECIAL TOOL to a second multimeter (12) (amp measuring range).

    IMPORTANT Multimeter (12)

IMPORTANT The connected control units may have an increased no-load current for up to 4 minutes after the fuse or no-load current test adapter (13) MPECIAL TOOL has been inserted.

  7. Insert no-load current test adapter (13) MPECIAL TOOL with second multimeter (12) into fuse holder in place of fuse and read off no-load current.
    • If the no-load current is > 20 mA, wait for 4 minutes and read off the no-load current again.
    • If the quiescent current is > 20 mA, determine fused components with increased quiescent current consumption.
    • If the quiescent current is ≤20 mA, the protected current path is OK. Note quiescent current and fuse number.
  8. Then check quiescent current consumption of the remaining current path according to test step  7.
  9. Instead of the fuse 9 for the overhead control panel control unit (N70) on the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) Fond (N10/2) connect the no-load current test adapter (13) MPECIAL TOOL with the second multimeter (12) and read off the no-load current.
    • If the quiescent current is > 20 mA, wait for 30 minutes and read off the quiescent current again.
    • If the quiescent current is > 20 mA: check the overhead control panel control unit (N70).
    • If the no-load current <; is 20 mA, the fused current path is OK Note quiescent current and fuse number.
  10. Add measured no-load currents.

IMPORTANT This step takes place for the case that several fused current paths have a slightly increased quiescent current consumption.

    • If the calculated no-load current ≤35 mA, the fused current paths are OK. Determine unfused components with excessive quiescent current consumption.
    • If the calculated quiescent current > 35 mA, check components of fused current paths with the highest quiescent currents. It is unfortunately not possible to state any specifications in this case as these depend on the particular current path and on the calculated total current.
