Windshield wiper, function - GF82.30-P-3004LE

General function requirements 

Wiping windshield, general 

The windshield wiping function keeps the windshield free of water, snow, etc.

Windshield wiping comprises the following subfunctions:

Intermittent wipe function sequence 

By turning the combination switch (S4) into position "1" (wiping with low sensitivity) or into position "2" (wiping with higher sensitivity), the intermittent wipe function is switched on.

The position of the combination switch is read in by the steering column tube module (N80) and placed on the chassis CAN. The central gateway control unit (N93) routes the request of the combination switch via the interior CAN to the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1).

The rain/light sensor (B38/2) transmits the frequency of the required wipe operations based on the degree of wetting of the windshield via the overhead control panel control unit (N70) to the front SAM control unit.

The front SAM control unit actuates the master wiper motor (M6/6) in accordance with the information.

The master wiper motor then actuates the slave wiper motor (M6/7).

Intermittent wiping is terminated by turning the combination switch into position "0", "3" or "4".

Intermittent wiping is interrupted by the wash, touch wiping, after-wiping, wiper start suppression, wipe stop functions or a defective rain/light sensor.

Function sequence of wiping at specified speed 

Turning the combination switch to position "3" (continuous wipe with slow speed) or to position "4" (continuous wipe with fast speed) switches on the continuous wipe function.

The position of the combination switch is read in by the steering column tube module and placed on the chassis CAN. The central gateway control unit routes the combination switch request to the front SAM control unit via the interior CAN. The front SAM control unit actuates the master wiper motor in accordance with the information.

Wiping at predefined speed is interrupted by turning the combination switch to position "0", "1" or "2".

Wiping at specified speed is interrupted by the washing, after-wiping, or wipe stop functions.

Touch wiping function sequence 

The touch wiping function can only be initiated when the combination switch is in position "0", "1" or "2". If the wiper is not located in the rest position, the touch wiping request of the combination switch is ignored.

The position of the combination switch is read in by the steering column tube module and placed on the chassis CAN. The central gateway control unit routes the combination switch request to the front SAM control unit via the interior CAN. The front SAM control unit actuates the master wiper motor in accordance with the information.

If the combination switch is released before the first touch/wipe cycle has ended, only one wipe is performed. If the combination switch is pressed and held, wiping takes place for the duration of the actuation, but at most for t = 30 s.

If pressed for longer, it is assumed the combination switch is "stuck" and the function is interrupted despite the current request.

The touch wiping speed corresponds to the wiping speed in position "3".

Function sequence for interrupting wiping during engine start 

Actuation of the master wiper motor is disabled when engine start is recognized by the front SAM control unit.

Any wiping procedure already started is terminated.

The engine start is recognized by transmitting circuit 50 from the EIS [EZS] control unit (N73) to the front SAM control unit.
