Function 

The Electronic Toll Collection System (ETC) is a component of the navigation system.

ETC was developed in order to simplify payments for toll roads. The electronic toll collection (ETC) antenna and the electronic toll collection (ETC) control unit are installed in the vehicle for this purpose. An electronic toll collection (ETC) antenna is used by the electronic toll collection (ETC) control unit to communicate with the toll collection center and it automatically processes all payment modalities, without the driver having to stop the vehicle.

For automatic payment a special ETC card must be inserted into the electronic toll collection (ETC) control unit. All information concerning the user and the fees that have already been paid are stored on this card. The electronic toll collection (ETC) control unit is connected in the vehicle over an RS-232C interface to the COMAND controller unit. The ETC system also has voice output and visual output (pop-ups).
