Standing/parking lights actuation, function - GF82.10-P-3060LE

Standing/parking lights, general 

The standing/parking lights actuation serves to mark the parked vehicle in darkness.

The standing/parking lights actuation function comprises the following subfunctions.

IMPORTANT For model 216 as of 1.9.10 and with model 221 as of 1.6.09 with code (615) Bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated curve illumination or code (616) Bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated asymmetrical curve illumination or code (621) Intelligent Light System (left-hand traffic) or code (622) Intelligent Light System (right-hand traffic) light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are used for the output of the parking lights and standing light functions instead of conventional bulbs. For this purpose the left standing and parking light voltage converter is located at the bottom of the left front lamp unit (E1) E1n5 and the right standing and parking light voltage converter at the bottom of the right front lamp unit (E2). These are powered by the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) and they actuate the left standing light and parking light (E1e3) in the left front lamp unit or the right standing light and parking light (E2e3) in the right front lamp unit.

LEDs are used instead of conventional bulbs for output of the turn signal functions. For this purpose the left turn signal and cornering light voltage converter (E1n6) and the right turn signal and cornering light voltage converter (E2n6) are located under the front lamp units. These are powered by the front SAM control unit and they actuate the left turn signal light (E1e5) in the left front lamp unit or the right turn signal light (E2e5) in the right front lamp unit.

When the turn signal light actuation is requested with active standing lights, the front SAM control unit interrupts actuation of the horizontally arranged LEDs. The vertically arranged LEDs are still actuated.

Standing lights actuation function sequence 

Turning the rotary light switch (S1) to the standing lights position request actuation of the standing lights.

The upper control panel control unit (N72/1) reads in the rotary light switch status over the instrument panel LIN (LIN 1) and sends it over the interior CAN (CAN B) to the front SAM control unit. The front SAM control unit generates the "Switch on standing light" request and sends it over the interior CAN to the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) and for vehicles with code (550) Trailer hitch also to the trailer recognition control unit (N28/1).

The front SAM control unit actuates the following components:

The rear SAM control unit actuates the following components:

IMPORTANT With model 221 as of 1.6.09 and with model 216 as of 1.9.10 the license plate lamps are LEDs.

The trailer recognition control unit actuates the corresponding components for the lighting system on the trailer through the trailer hitch socket, 13-pin (X58).

The front SAM control unit then sends the "Standing lights actuation active" status via the interior CAN to the upper control panel control unit, whereupon the upper control panel control unit actuates the standing lights indicator lamp (S1e3) in the rotary light switch over the instrument panel LIN.

Additional function requirements for lights on reminder 

Lights on reminder function sequence 

The logic for actuating the lights on reminder warning function is stored in the instrument cluster (A1).

The front SAM control unit sends the "Standing lights actuation active" status over the interior CAN.

The status of the driver door is sent by the left door control unit (N69/1) (model 216) or from the left front door control unit (N69/1) (model 221) to the interior CAN and the current circuit 15 status is sent by the EZS control unit (N73) to the chassis CAN. The central gateway control unit (N93) routes all relevant information over the central CAN (CAN F) to the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster links this with the status of the headlamp switch-off delay (SWA) function and accordingly generates the request to issue the light warning function.

The instrument cluster then actuates the warning buzzer (A1h1) for acoustic output of the light warning. The message "Switch off lights" also appears in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster.

The standing lights may be switched on because the low beams have been manually switched on, because of the auto on/off headlamps, the daytime running lights or manually via the rotary light switch.

If the standing lights have been activated by manually switching on the low beams, the auto on/off headlamps or the daytime running lights and the driver door is then opened when a transmitter key is inserted in the EZS control unit, the standing lights are switched off.

If the transmitter key is removed from the EZS control unit when the rear fog light actuation is active, and then the driver door is opened, the instrument cluster actuates the warning buzzer and issues a corresponding message on the multifunction display.

The request to deactivate rear fog light actuation via the rotary light switch prevents the rear fog light actuation from being activated automatically the next time the vehicle is driven with the low beams switched on.

Parking lights actuation function sequence 

By turning the rotary light switch to the left parking lights position or the right parking lights position, the parking lights actuation is requested for the corresponding side of vehicle.

The upper control panel control unit reads in the status of the rotary light switch over the instrument panel LIN and sends it over the interior CAN to the front SAM control unit.

The front SAM control unit generates the "Switch on standing light" request and sends it over the interior CAN to the rear SAM control unit and for vehicles with code (550) Trailer hitch also to the trailer recognition control unit.

Left parking light:

The front SAM control unit actuates the left standing and parking lights.

The rear SAM control unit actuates the left brake light, taillight and parking light.

The trailer recognition control unit on vehicles with code (550) Trailer hitch, actuates the corresponding components of the lighting system on the trailer via the trailer hitch socket.

Right parking light:

The front SAM control unit actuates the right standing and parking lights.

The rear SAM control unit actuates the right brake light, taillight and parking light.

The trailer recognition control unit actuates the corresponding components for the lighting system on the trailer through the trailer hitch socket.
