Remove/install radiator - AR20.20-P-3865MMB

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
    IMPORTANT Cooler for low-temperature water circuit (5), transmission cooler (4), condenser for the A/C (2) and cooler (7) create a unit and can therefore only be removed together.  
NOTES Notes on coolant   AH20.00-N-2080-01A
1 Switch off ignition    
2 Open engine hood    
3 Open cap on coolant expansion reservoir IMPORTANT Turn cap slowly and release excess pressure, then unscrew cap.  
4 Remove fan unit   AR20.40-P-5050MM 
5 Discharge air conditioning system and evacuate   AR83.30-P-1760SX
6 Raise vehicle   AR00.60-P-1000SX
7 Remove bottom engine compartment paneling   AR61.20-P-1105SX
8 Drain coolant at radiator (7)   AR20.00-P-1142MM

9 Detach engine oil cooler on air ducting and secure against falling down outside the working area Engine 157  
10 Unclip air ducting on radiator support (3) and remove downwards    
11 Unclip Active-Body-Control cooler (1) on radiator support (3) and fasten on bumper Vehicles with code (487) Active Body Control (ABC)  
12 Detach coolant hose between coolant pump and cooler (7) and set aside   AR09.41-P-1311-01AL
13 Detach coolant hose between cooler for the low-temperature water circuit (5) and charge air cooler circulation pump Engines 157, 278

14 Detach coolant hose between charge air cooler and cooler for the low-temperature water circuit (5) Engines 157, 278

15 Detach transmission fluid lines to transmission cooler (4) IMPORTANT Seal openings using stop plugs. AR27.10-P-0501-03SX

16 Detach refrigerant lines on A/C condenser (2) IMPORTANT Seal openings using stop plugs. AR83.30-P-6540SX

17 Lower vehicle   AR00.60-P-1000SX
18 Remove coolant hose between cooler (7) and coolant thermostat   AR09.41-P-1311-01AL
19 Remove coolant hose between cooler (7) and coolant expansion reservoir on cooler (7) SPECIAL TOOL Fig 3
20 Take out radiator (7) in an upward direction IMPORTANT Check rubber mount (8) for the cooler package and replace if necessary.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Check for correct seating of cooler package in the rubber mounts (8) and the lower cooler holder.
 
21 Remove bolt (2a) on the cooler (7), unclip condenser for the A/C (2) from radiator support (3) and take off When replacing the radiator support (3) or condenser for the A/C (2)  
22 Push together retaining clamp and remove cooler (7) from the radiator support (3) When replacing the cooler (7), radiator support (3), transmission cooler (4) or cooler for the low-temperature water circuit (5)  
23 Detach retaining strips (6) from radiator support (3) When replacing the radiator support (3), transmission cooler (4) or cooler for the low-temperature water circuit (5)  
24 Unclip transmission cooler (4) from radiator support (3) and remove Engines 157, 278
When replacing the radiator support (3) or transmission cooler (4)
 
25 Unclip cooler for low-temperature water circuit (5) from radiator support (3) and remove Engines 157, 278
When replacing the radiator support (3) or cooler for the low-temperature water circuit (5)
 
26 Install in the reverse order    
27 Check oil level in transmission and correct if necessary Vehicles without 4MATIC AR27.00-P-0270W
Vehicles with 4MATIC AR27.00-P-0270SYZ
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

28 Perform an engine test run and check cooling system for function and leaktightness
