Remove/install bulbs of headlamp unit - AR82.10-P-1201SC

MODEL 216.3 up to model year 2011 

Shown on the left front lamp unit

MODIFICATION NOTES

11.1.07 Repair method for removal of both bi-xenon lamps changed.
Picture item, etc.  Work instructions     
DANGER Risk of death  caused by high voltage at xenon headlamps. Risk of explosion/risk of fire  caused by highly flammable materials in the vicinity of damaged xenon bulbs. Risk of injury  caused by UV light, hot components at xenon headlamps and glass splinters produced by bursting xenon bulbs. Risk of poisoning  caused by inhalation of mercury vapors and by toxic salts and mercury compounds being ingested or coming into contact with skin Do not come into contact with parts that are under high voltage. Persons with active electronic implants  (e.g. heart pacemakers) must never work on xenon headlamps. Switch off entire lighting system. Wear insulated safety shoes, safety glasses and protective gloves. Remove highly inflammable materials from the hazard area. Ensure sufficient ventilation in the working area. AS82.10-Z-0001-01A
NOTES Do not touch the glass bulb elements of the bulbs with fingers, but use a soft cloth free of oil and grease; otherwise the bulbs can be damaged by overheating during operation    
NOTES Switch off the exterior lights prior to the bulb replacement in order to avoid a short circuit    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and bring "xenon bulb into removal position" To change left bi-xenon lamp with integral ignition module (E1e10) or right bi-xenon lamp with integral ignition module (E2e10). AD00.00-P-2000-04A
IMPORTANT Switch off ignition and withdraw transmitter key or Keyless Go start/stop button from the EZS control unit Keyless Go start/stop button only on vehicles with code (889) Keyless Go.  
IMPORTANT Remove/install washer fluid reservoir of windshield washer system Model 216.3 except 216.386
To change left standing light and parking light (E1e3) and left turn signal light (E1e5).

Type 216.386
To change left high beam/motorway spotlight (E1e1), corner-illuminating fog lamp (E1e9) and left infrared lamp (E1e11).

IMPORTANT Remove/install telescoping nozzle for headlamp cleaning system To change the left turn signal lamp (E1e5), remove the left telescopic nozzle and place to one side with the hose connected.
To change right turn signal light (E2e5), remove right telescopic nozzle and place to one side with hose connected.
AR82.15-P-6100SX 
IMPORTANT Detach/attach lower engine compartment paneling Model 216.3 except model 216.376/379, to change right standing light and parking light (E2e3) and right turn signal light (E2e5), remove front engine compartment paneling.
Model 216.386, to change left standing light and parking light (E1e3), left turn signal light (E1e5), right standing light and parking light (E2e3) and right turn signal light (E2e5), remove front engine compartment paneling.

IMPORTANT Remove/install fender liner in front fender Model 216.376/379, to change right standing light and parking light (E2e3) and right turn signal light (E2e5), remove front section of fender liner in right front fender.
To change left bi-xenon lamp with integral ignition module (E1e10), remove front section of fender liner in left front fender.
 
IMPORTANT Remove/install expansion reservoir To change right bi-xenon lamp with integral ignition module (E2e10), remove expansion reservoir and place to one side with lines connected. AR20.30-P-4950SX
E1e1, E2e1 Left high beam/motorway spotlight, right high beam/motorway spotlight IMPORTANT On vehicles without code (610) Night View Assist, remove housing cover (2), turn high beam/motorway spotlight socket to the left and remove. Pull left high beam/motorway spotlight (E1e1) or right high beam/motorway spotlight (E2e1) out of high beam/motorway spotlight socket.  
E1e3, E2e3 Left standing and parking lamp, right standing and parking lamp IMPORTANT Detach housing cover (5) and remove standing and parking lamp socket (4). Remove left standing and parking lamp (E1e3) or right standing and parking lamp (E2e3) from standing and parking lamp socket (4).  
E1e5, E2e5 Left turn signal light, right turn signal light IMPORTANT Remove bolts (6) from housing cover (7) and remove housing cover (7). Remove left turn signal lamp (E1e5) from left front lamp unit (E1) or right turn signal lamp (E2e5) from the right front lamp unit (E2).  
E1e9, E2e9 Turning lamps IMPORTANT Detach housing cover (2), twist cornering illumination socket to the left and remove. Remove cornering illumination (E1e9 or E2e9) from the cornering illumination socket.  
E1e10, E2e10 Left bi-xenon lamp with integral ignition module, right bi-xenon lamp with integral ignition module IMPORTANT Detach housing cover (1), disconnect electrical connector (3), detach mounting clamp and pull out left bi-xenon lamp with integral ignition module (E1e10) or right bi-xenon lamp with integral ignition module (E2e10).  
E1e11, E2e11 Left infrared lamp, right infrared lamp On vehicles with code (610) Night View Assist.
IMPORTANT Detach housing cover (2), twist infrared lamp socket to the left and remove. Pull left infrared lamp (E1e11) or right infrared lamp (E2e11) out of infrared lamp socket.
