Location

The distance sensors are located in the front and rear bumpers.

Task

The distance sensors are both transmitters and receivers for the ultrasonic signals that are required for measuring the distance to an obstacle.

Function

The distance sensors actuated by the PARKTRONIC control unit (N62) transmit an ultrasonic signal. After a short decay time the distance sensors are ready to receive. Each distance sensor receives the echo of its own signal and that of the other distance sensors. The distance to the obstacle is calculated from the elapsed time between transmission and reception.
