In normal driving mode the AIRmatic system operates with different pressures depending on the load. An electrical air compressor is used for pressure supply. This compressor and a drain valve are integrated in the AIRmatic compressor unit.

The level control valve unit distributes the air pressure to the individual suspension struts of the front and rear axle.

The following are integrated in the level control valve unit:

The system has an AIRmatic central reservoir in which compressed-air is stored in order to permit shorter reaction times.

The storage pressure is monitored by the AIRmatic pressure sensor.

The system is supplied with pressure either via the AIRmatic central reservoir or via the air compressor.
