Remove/install solenoid camshaft - AR05.20-P-7295MMB

ENGINES 157, 278 in MODEL 216, 221

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/Install     
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by fingers being pinched or crushed  when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lids, liftgates or sliding roof Keep body parts and limbs well clear of moving parts. AS00.00-Z-0011-01A
1 Remove engine trim panels (5)    
2 Remove both upper charge air duct (2)   AR09.41-P-8620MMB
3 Remove engine oil cooling oil lines from oil filter housing and lay to the side outside the working area Engine 157 for removal of the camshaft solenoids (Y49/4, Y49/6) on the left cylinder head
IMPORTANT Seal openings using stop plugs.
IMPORTANT Replace sealing rings and clean connection area of the oil lines.
 
SPECIAL TOOL Fig 2
4 Detach ABC (3) feed line from cylinder head cover and from left front cover (1l) For vehicles with code (487) Active Body Control (ABC), for removal of the camshaft solenoids (Y49/4, Y49/6) on the left cylinder head  
5 Remove oil filter housing cover (7) For removal of the camshaft solenoids (Y49/4, Y49/6) on the left cylinder head  
See engine oil and filter change AP18.00-P-0101SX
6 Disconnect electrical connector (8) from the respective solenoid (Y49/4, Y49/5, Y49/6, Y49/7)    
7 Remove bolts (10) and take out the respective solenoid (Y49/4, Y49/5, Y49/6, Y49/7) from the front cover (1l, 1r) IMPORTANT Replace bolts (10) and sealing ring for the camshaft solenoid (Y49/4, Y49/5, Y49/6, Y49/7).
IMPORTANT Tighten to indicated torque using an insert box wrench Hazet 6609 c-E8  .
 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA05.20-P-1008-02A 
8 Install in the reverse order    
9 Check engine oil level; correct if necessary   AP18.00-P-0101SX
10 Read out fault memory with STAR DIAGNOSIS and erase if necessary   AD00.00-P-2000-04A
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

11 Carry out engine test run, checking the engine for proper operation and leaks
