Notes on aluminum threads in body - AH60.00-P-0035-01A
MODEL 190, 197
General information on aluminum threads:
Always tighten bolts in aluminum threads by hand, then to corresponding tightening torque (see tightening torques, BA).
Threaded connections for transverse control arm bracket on body
Threaded connections for transverse control arm bracket on body:
Never loosen or remove the screws/bolts (1) at the mounting brackets.
However, if the bolt is unscrewed/removed for any reason, check thread visually (burrs, bolt/bodyshell abrasion):
- If the thread is OK, it is necessary to use a new thread rolling screw (available via EPC).
- If the thread is damaged (not OK), always perform a thread repair (see thread repair) and use a new thread rolling screw (available via EPC).
When repairing the thread, observe the tightening torques (BA) for "Bolt, angle bracket to bodyshell" and "Bolt, mounting bracket to bodyshell/rear transverse control arm mount" (see BA of function group (FG) 62/64).
When the screws/bolts (2) are removed, visually check the thread (burrs, abrasion between screw/bolt and bodyshell):
- If the thread is OK, it is necessary to use a new thread rolling screw (available via EPC).
- If thread is damaged (not okay), always repair thread (see thread repair) and use new thread rolling screw (available via EPC).
Observe the tightening torque (BA) for "Bolt, front axle carrier to longitudinal member" (see BA of function group (FG) 33).
Thread repair:
- Thread repairs on threaded connections for transverse control arm brackets on body are approved only when threaded inserts of type "Time Sert" M8x 1.25x 16 threaded bushings are used.
Thread repair set
- Thread repairs on threaded connections for integral carrier on body are approved only when threaded inserts of type "Time Sert" M14x 1.5x 26 are used.
