The vehicles must be thoroughly cleaned before they are brought into the painting facility.
Grease and oils, in particular, must be thoroughly removed from the panel as they can turn the top coat yellow at temperatures of approximately 80 °C.
With an air injection temperature of approx. 75 to 110 °C (corresponds to an object temperature on the vehicle of approx. 60 to 80 °C)), the following precautions are required:
- Open the fuel filler cap.
- Disconnect ground line on battery.
- Cover rear lamp units.
- Remove outside temperature sensor if an outside thermometer is installed (not with electric outside thermometer).
- Mask registration stamp on license plate.
- Remove fire extinguishers, aerosols, fuel canisters, CDs, music cassettes and other loose articles from the interior.
- Electronic components such as the ballast for the transistorized ignition, the rpm switch in vehicles with exhaust treatment system, the control unit for the electronic injection system, the anti-lock braking system and special equipment such as the airbags and emergency tensioning retractors may only be heated to a maximum object temperature of 90 °C.
In cases of doubt, a series of tests is to be performed to check the temperature at these points (remove the electronic components beforehand) using a mercury maximum thermometer during the baking phase.
If the maximum permissible temperature is not exceeded, the electronic components need not be removed.
