Measurement possible at the front axle with floating caliper brake system on

Measurement possible at the rear axle with floating caliper brake system on

Where possible measurement to be at front axle with 4 or 6-piston and rear axle with 4-piston fixed-caliper brake system on

  1. Position slide (1) on the drive plate (2).

IMPORTANT Before each measurement position the slide (1) on the drive plate (2) in order to avoid measurement errors.

Measurement on front axle without SPECIAL TOOLgauge adapter (011) with SPECIAL TOOLbrake pad check gauge (010)

  2. Insert measuring drift (3) in the test bore of the brake lining carrier at the outer brake pad (4).
  3. SPECIAL TOOL Mount brake pad check gauge (010) up against brake pad support so that the red ring (5) is at the top.
  4. SPECIAL TOOL Remove brake pad check gauge (010) and read off thickness of the friction lining without pad backing plate at slide (1).

IMPORTANT Read off value on the scale with the brake lining wear symbol, otherwise a wrong value will be determined.

Measurement on front axle without SPECIAL TOOLgauge adapter (011) on vehicles without test bores, except model 164, 166, 251

  5. SPECIAL TOOL Position brake pad check gauge (010) on outer brake pad (4), as shown.
  6. SPECIAL TOOL Press brake pad check gauge (010) towards the brake pad (4) until as much as possible of the red ring (5) lies on flat.

IMPORTANTSPECIAL TOOL The brake pad check gauge (010) must be at a right-angle to the brake disk's friction surface.

  7. SPECIAL TOOL Remove brake pad check gauge (010) and read off thickness of the friction lining without pad backing plate at slide.

IMPORTANT Read off value on the scale with the brake lining wear symbol, otherwise a wrong value will be determined.

Measurement on front axle with SPECIAL TOOLgauge adapter (011) for model 164, 166, 251

  8. SPECIAL TOOL Pull check gauge adapter (011) out of the bracket (012) and connect up to the end stop on the measuring drift.
  9. Mount the tip of the SPECIAL TOOL check gauge adapter (011) on the friction surface of the brake disk.
  10. SPECIAL TOOL Position brake pad check gauge (010) on the floating brake caliper (6) as shown so that as much as possible of the red ring (5) lies on flat.

IMPORTANTSPECIAL TOOL The brake pad check gauge (010) must be at a right-angle to the brake disk's friction surface.

Measurement on rear axle without SPECIAL TOOLgauge adapter (011)

  12. Insert measuring drift (3) in the test bore of the brake lining carrier at the outer brake pad (4).
