Voice control, general 

The individual functions of the driver information system are called up and operated via the voice control system (VCS [SBS]). The VCS [SBS] is integrated in the COMAND controller unit (A40/3).

The voice control can be activated or deactivated using the following buttons on the multifunction steering wheel (MFL):

• Voice control system ON button (S111s4)
• "Back" and voice control system OFF button (S110s4)

The system can be controlled by voice by spelling out or entering complete words.

Voice control function sequence 

The control signals of the VCS [SBS] on button are forwarded over the following components to the COMAND controller unit:

• Steering LIN (LIN E1)
• Steering column tube module control unit (N80)
• Chassis CAN (CAN E)
• Instrument cluster (A1)
• Interior CAN (CAN B)

The voice input takes place via the hands-free system microphone (A67b1), which is connected to the COMAND controller unit via a direct line. The words spoken into the hands-free system microphone are converted into an electrical signal and forwarded to the COMAND controller unit.

On vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the voice output is performed by the COMAND controller unit via direct lines and the following speakers:

• Left front door speaker (H4/1)
• Right front door speaker (H4/2)

On vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the voice output is performed by the COMAND controller unit via the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) and the following speakers:

• Left front door speaker
• Right front door speaker
• Center instrument panel speaker (H4/27)
